ITV Saturday Preview - 17/08/19

13:50 Newbury - The Denford Stakes (Listed Race) (Formerly The Washington Singer Stakes)

The Listed Denford Stakes really spices up the card with the seven furlong event seeing some classy juveniles head to post and Juan Elcano is our selection.

The son of Frankel has raced twice as a juvenile and looks a very progressive horse winning on debut in a Class 4 on heavy ground at Haydock.

On his latest start he he finished a really good second in the Group 2 Superlative Stakes behind a smart King Power juvenile and now with conditions to suit will be tough to beat.

14:05 Ripon - The William Hill Silver Trophy Handicap Stakes (Consolation Race For The William Hill Great St Wilfrid Stakes)

The Silver Trophy Handicap is the first big race of the day at Ripon on Saturday and the Class 2 over six furlongs and we have sided with Dalton.

Julie Camacho's five year old looks a very interesting gelding if coming on for his latest run, when finishing a strong third over course and distance.

In two starts before that he was less than impressive but he likes heavy ground and with the rain supposed to be falling all the time from now until the race he may get his perfect conditions.

14:25 Newbury - The Unibet Geoffrey Freer Stakes (Group 3)

The Group Three Geoffrey Freer Stakes sees a small five runner field go to post and we have gone for the outsider of the field with Martyn Meade's Technician.

This three year old has been a mixed bag this season producing some really smart runs with his best coming at Longchamp when taking the Listed Prix Ridgway.

He has also been outclassed in better events than this but back on soft ground with conditions to suit and if he shakes off his latest performance he can thrive with this trainer in smart form.

14:45 Newmarket - The Unibet Grey Horse Handicap Stakes

The only race from Newmarket on the ITV broadcast is the Grey Horse Handicap over six furlongs and in this unique race we have selected Chatham House.

This three year old gelding got off the mark at the 11th time of asking last time out over seven furlongs at this track and he showed plenty of speed that to day to suggest six furlongs will suit.

He has been upped seven pounds which is a negative but did win quite comfortably that day and should still give a good account of himself with Hannon in flying form.

15:00 Newbury - The Unibet Handicap

Charles Hills trained Breath Of Air is the favourite in this Class 3 Handicap and looks to have a big chance dropping back down into this grade

The three year old has not looked the same horse this year putting in some underwhelming performances but two starts ago did finish a staying on third in a Class 3 at Doncaster behind some nice runners.

He won at this track last year and won't mind some rain with him winning on good to soft back as a juvenile but will need to step up to go well here.

15:15 Ripon - The William Hill Great St Wilfrid Handicap Stakes

The next at Ripon in The William Hill Great St Wilfrid Handicap Stakes over six furlongs and Mark Jonhston's Lake Volta is our selection.

This four year old gelding thrives in big fielded events especially on soft ground which he will get and this season he has been in and around the frame on most his starts.

He was a good course and distance winner on this card back in 2017 and now getting his ideal conditions off the back off good ground all year he should be in the mix.

15:35 Newbury - The Unibet Hungerford Stakes (Group 2)Ripon

The feature race of the day is the Group 2 Hungerford stakes over seven furlongs and this race holds some seriously good entries and we are sticking with John Quinn's Safe Voyage.

The six year old has raced four times all year, winning his first three in good style with all of them coming at Haydock, stepping up to Listed and Group Three company and scoring nicely.

Last time out he suffered his first loss of the season at the Curragh in the Group Two Minstrel Stakes and with the form being franked from that, he looks to have a strong chance.
