The first race of the afternoon is the Listed Carnarvon Stakes over six furlongs and we feel the value lies with the Richard Hannon trained Ehraz.

The three year old Shadwell Estate owned colt was seen three times last term having been bought for 180,000gns and on debut was a huge eye-catcher at Newmarket finishing second behind the smart Noble Truth, flashing home late from off the pace.

He was bought back to 6f off the back of that run over course and distance at Ascot and went on to bolt up in Maiden company, breaking his duck.

Seen once more last term he was a strange fifth at York in the Group Three Acomb Stakes, with the race truly falling apart.

Back for another season he made his seasonal return in the Group Three Commonwealth Cup Trial and travelled like the best horse for a long way but just found very little, looking in need of the run.

Hopefully stripping fitter for that he can show his true turn of foot and looks a bet at around 5/1.

Newmarket's first race on terrestrial tv this weekend is the Listed Fairway Stakes over 1m2f and Ottoman Fleet for Charlie Appleby looks a very interesting contender.

The three year old son of Sea The Stars was bought for 450,000gns as a yearling and on debut showed he had serious ability finishing a close second behind smart stablemate Natural World.

He is sure to come on for that run and with him having stamina in abundance at this trip, we hope a big run is in the offing, with the yard also in flying form.

Eshaada

Age: 4
Weight: 9-6

Another cracking event on the afternoon at Newbury is the Group Three Al Rayyan Stakes over 1m4f and the horse that takes the eye is Eshaada for Roger Varian.

The four year old filly was highly touted last season to be a very special filly and at the end of the term proved just how good she could be.

Running once as a juvenile in November 2020, she got off the mark at Nottingham in impressive style, always looking liek she would get further.

Making her first start as a three year old last term, she picked up from where she left off by landing the Listed Haras De Bouquetot Fillies' Stakes on the same card as this.

Sent to Royal Ascot she was a close second behind Loving Dream in the G2 Ribblesdale Stakes on her first try at 1m4f, but she was then sent into the Yorkshire Oaks and ran no race at all finishing last of the seven.

Given a bit of time after that she was given one more run in the Group One Champions Fillies' & Mares Stakes at Ascot in October and beat some nice types to land her first G1 event.

That sets the form standard in this race and having Newbury form and proven when fresh, she should run a solid race.

Auditor

J: James Doyle
T: Martyn Meade
N/A
Age: 3
Weight: 9-2
OR: 87
Days: 10

Back over the Newmarket and the TRU7 Handicap over six furlongs sees some potentially smart sprinters go to post and we are hoping Auditor for Martyn Meade can bounce back to form.

The son of Profitable has an official mark of 87 and that might not be the ceiling of his abilities off the back of what he did last term.

Making a pleasing debut at Salisbury over 6f on quick ground when fourth of nine some nice horses, he then stayed at the same trip at Newbury and was a better third behind Bosh and American Star.

The form of that race is extremely strong with the first, second, Auditor, fifth, sixth and ninth going on to win since.

Auditor helped this form line when being dropped down to 5f at Windsor in July, seeing off a decent field by four lengths.

This term Auditor has been turned into Handicaps and made his seasonal debut at Sandown when a good second behind Live In The Dream, who has since franked the form at Chester.

Auditor was less than impressive when last seen at Chester not handling the track and now back on better ground and much more straight forward track, he could be overpriced.

Israr

J: Jim Crowley
T: John & Thady Gosden
N/A
Age: 3
Weight: 9-5
OR: 89
Days: 32

We are looking to make it a hat-trick of winners for Shadwell Estate in the opening three races at Newbury with Israr looking a likely contender in the London Gold Cup over 1m2f.

The three year old for John & Thady Gosden is a well bred son of Muhaarar that has been seen three times to date, showing some smart ability on every run.

Making an emphatic debut at Doncaster on fast ground over a mile, beating some smart youngsters, he then went to Salisbury on soft ground and although not enjoying the ground stayed on well for second.

Put away for the rest of last term after that run, he returned at Newmarket in April and finished a good third behind the likeable Educator for William Haggas, giving weight away that day.

Off the same mark of 89 in this event he should be much fitter for the event and the Gosden's are in flying form heading into the meeting.

Age: 4
Weight: 8-8
OR: 87
Days: 15

The final event from flat racing HQ on ITV is the Class 2 Handicap over 7f and Wizard D'Amour for Karl Burke could run a big race.

The four year old has been a very consistent horse during his career, racing 12 times and placing on 11 occasions, going on to win twice.

Seen four times already this season, he was a good second of 18 at Doncaster in March and backed that up on soft ground at Ripon when a close third behind two nice horses.

He got off the mark for the campaign two starts ago, winning comfortably at Catterick back at seven furlongs and then last time out off 7lb higher over C&D, he was a narrow second to the favourite Shine So Bright.

Only 2lb higher for that run in this one and getting more weight off his rival who he opposes again, he can reverse the form.

Baaeed

J: Jim Crowley
T: William Haggas
N/A
Age: 4
Weight: 9-0
OR: 125
Days: 210

The feature event of the afternoon at Newbury is the Group One Lockinge Stakes over a mile and the favourite Baaeed should not be beat.

The highly rated four year old only started his racecourse career at the start of June last year and has since gone on to win all five of his events in fine style, winning more impressively each time.

Having landed a decent Maiden at Leicester on his debut, Haggas sent him into a Novices' event next time out at Newmarket and went on to bolt up by nearly eight lengths.

Firmly putting himself as a horse to follow, he improved once more to land the Listed Sir Henry Cecil Stakes on the July Course, seeing off smart stars Maximal and One Ruler with ease.

Next time out at Glorious Goodwood he took on his toughest field yet in the Group Three Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes, but once again he took it in his stride and saw off El Drama by close to seven lengths.

All set for a step up to Group One company he went on to make it a perfect 5/5, landing the Prix du Moulin on his first trip to France.Baaeed rounded off the season at Ascot on Champions Day when taking on the best miler in Europe Palace Pier and in a fight to the finish, the younger horse prevailed.

The colt is one of the big talking horses heading into the 2022 flat season and it would be a big shock to see him get beat here.

New Mandate

J: Richard Kingscote
T: Ralph Beckett
N/A
Age: 4
Weight: 9-0
OR: 111
Days: 17

At a huge price and our each way selection in the feature race is the Ralph Beckett trained New Mandate, who looks to have been overlooked in the market.

A smart juvenile in 2020 he landed three races on the trot between seven and eight furlongs, taking out the Listed Flying Scotsman Stakes and Group Two Royal Lodge Stakes.

Sent to the Breeders Cup meeting on his final juvenile start it did not work out and he suffered a setback which only saw him race once as a three year old.

After a fair bit of time off the track, he went to Royal Ascot in the Group Three Jersey Stakes and looked to need the run massively with it being such a big ask on his first start.

Having a proper prep into this season, he made his first start over a mile at Ascot in the Listed Paradise Stakes and in a cracker he saw off Sir Busker to land the spoils.

He has bundles of improvement left in him and at his current price of 33/1 he could nick a place.
