Happy Valley Wednesday Preview - 21/04/21

The first selection of the day comes in the Duddell Handicap over six furlongs and Smiling Face for trainer Douglas Whyte could be a big player from a good draw.

The four year old is ridden by Englishman Harry Bentley and he has been shaping on all of his runs this year like he has ability.

With two smart fourths at the start of the year over todays course and distance, he was then stepped up in trip on his next two runs and did not suit it.

Back down in trip today is a big plus and going from stall one can see him get involved.

Next up is the Class 4 Handicap over a mile and Bright Kid looks to have a big chance and although top weight has Zac Purton on board which is like taking off a few pounds.

The six year old has been knocking on the door all year, finishing sixth on his first run of the term and then backing that up with a closer fourth over the same six furlongs.

Stepped up to a mile at Sha Tin he gave his best run of the year to finish a close second of 14 and then over course and distance at Happy Valley last time out he was another close third.

He is going in the right direction and another big run is in the offing.

The second division of the same handicap over a mile sees another good contest and Savvy Kingman looks to have a big chance.

The four year old, although still a maiden, has gone close of late over course and with Joao Moreira in the saddle should be bang there again.

The gelding three starts ago was a good fourth over a mile at Sha Tin and then backed that up with a career best at Happy Valley over course and distance when a narrow second.

He could only manage fourth last time out, but if getting back to the same form as he run two starts ago, he is a big player.

The final runner of the day for us comes in the Class 3 Queen's Road Central Handicap over six furlongs and Capital Star will not be far away.

The four year old gelding trained by Caspar Fownes has won three of his five starts during his career, whilst also placing in another event.

Having scored on his first two starts in Australia, he was moved over to Hong Kong and finished second on his debut over course and distance.

In February he got back to winning ways at Happy Valley, but could only manage fourth last time out and he needs to be better than that in this one.

Getting back to his earlier form gives him a big chance, if the handicapper has not got hold of him.
