Goodwood Wednesday Preview - 25/09/19

14:00 - Heineken 0.0% Future Stayers' EBF Maiden Stakes - Stag Horn

By Golden Horn, closely related to Star Rider and Star Rock, Archie Watson's 2-y-o colt is bred to relish this step up in trip on soft ground and he is forecasted a healthy e/w price.

He was sent off 6/4 on debut but the trip looked far too sharp with his best work coming late on and he should be shown in much better light here.

Hollie Doyle, who has managed 37 winners for the yard the past 12 months, is in the saddle.

14:30 - Old Mout Optional Claiming Handicap - Mutaabeq

Stuart Williams has arguably the most solid contender in Alemaratalyoum, who is a consistent miler on soft ground, but the way in which Mutaabeq travelled last time out suggested he will be suited by this drop in trip.

He cruised through the race before fading late on, and his debut victory in Ireland came on similar ground to this, which is another big positive.

Jim Crowley, who is tracking at a 33.33% strike rate the past 14 days, is in the saddle.

15:05 - Birra Moretti Handicap - Quench Dolly

Quench Dolly has recorded two wins from four runs at this course and the soft conditions will pose no issue with her having numerous strong pieces of form with cut in the ground.

She now sits 10lb below her last winning mark and the talented Cieren Fallon shaves off a further 3lb.

Weighted to go close.

15:40 - British Stallion Studs EBF Foundation Stakes - Qasaru

The forecasted conditions are ideal for Qasaru, who looks to be the third successive horse to win this race off 8'11. The Roger Charlton trained colt steps up in class but he has a strong strike rate on this surface and the yard are going particularly well.

Jason Watson has two wins and two places from four rides on the horse.

16:10 - Thoroughbred Breeders Association Fillies' Handicap - Monica Sheriff

This trip provides an unknown quantity for many of these and it is Monica Sheriff who looks the most likely to benefit. She is closely related to a Group1 winner over this far and she has shaped as though it will be in range on each of her recent outings.

Her form is also stacking up nicely and the yard have won this race before.

16:45 - Orchard Thieves Handicap - Grey Spirit

Sir Mark Prescott has managed four wins from his last seven runners and Grey Spirit looks to hold strong claims in this handicap. He boasts a 75% strike rate at this distance and there are plenty in the race with questions to answer.

Andrew Balding's Simoon represents the main danger however our selection had him over 4lenghts back at Epsom.

17:20 - Heineken UK Apprentice Handicap - Pettochside

This looks an ideal scenario for Pettochside, who has 9 career victories on soft ground along with 5 wins and 7 places at this track.

He is not getting any younger, but a nine year old took this race last year and the yard also won the race back in 2016.
