Goodwood Saturday Preview - 04/05/19

The first race of the flat season at Goodwood is the Class 5 Double Trigger Handicap over 1 mile 6 furlongs and we have gone for the Gary Moore trained Chivers.

This eight year old has been chasing during the winter and now the national hunt season has finished is now back on the flat and holds a fair record.

Last spring he landed two races over this distance including this exact race a year ago, should be fresh from running throughout the off season and could land back to back wins in this contest.

The Listed Daisy Warwick Fillies Stakes over 1 mile 4 furlongs gets the card properly started and we have gone for the William Haggas trained Klassique.

This consistent four year old filly was superb last season landing a hat-trick and also two good seconds in strong races, she has not been outside of the top two in her last five outings.

Her latest run saw her a narrow runner up in a french Group 3 which sets the form standard in this race and if coming back from the winter break fresh she will be tough to beat.

Another of the better races on the card is the Class 2 Handicap over seven furlongs and we have gone with the favourite Qaroun for trainer Sir Michael Stoute.

This four year old colt has very low mileage but has some strong form coming into this race from the back end of last season and also his seasonal debut this year.

He won on this card 12 months ago and has since been on the all weather running to a high standard. He finished second in a Class 3 on his first run back at Chelmsford and if improving for that run has every chance back on turf.

The fourth race of the day at Goodwood is the Class 3 Sprint Handicap over five furlongs and we have gone for the John Bridger trained Pettochside.

This 10 year old veteran won this contest last year off 7lb higher and will be looking to make his mark again with Hollie Doyle on board the gelding again.

His seasonal debut was nothing to shout about and we can draw a line through that but he is a serious contender at a nice price in this one.

Another Listed contest on the card in the Conqueror Fillies Stakes over a mile and we have sided with the Hughie Morrison trained Bella Ragazza.

This four year old filly won three out of her seven races last year and is unbeaten at this track winning her only two races here.

One of those wins came over course and distance and coming back for her seasonal debut in a race that will be ran at a decent pace could see her land the contest.

Our penultimate tip on the card is Deference for trainer Amanda Perrett in the Sussex Roof Garden Novice Stakes over seven furlongs.

This three year old colt owned by Prince Khalid Abdullah has only raced twice in his career finishing positively into third and fourth not being beaten far.

With only five runners in the Class 4 contest he has a great chance to get off the mark and on his turf debut it might bring the best out of him on a different surface.

The final race of the day at Goodwood sees the Class 5 Long View Handicap and we have gone with the Sylvester Kirk trained Htilominlo.

This three year has had four starts to date with three of them coming on the all weather where he has ran to a fair standard and he made his turf debut on his latest run.

This came at Salisbury in a Class 4 over todays trip where he finished a smart second and is dangerous dropping down in trip on Saturday.
