Platform Nineteen returned from a 2 year layoff last time out at Beverley to run home a cosy 5 1/2 length winner upon soft ground.

The runner is now expected to relish the soft ground once more and should improve again for the step up in trip to the 2m 4f distance given the manner of his victory last time out when keeping on impressively in the latter stages.

The son of Australia runs off an attractive 8 stone 8lbs for the contest and a mark of 89 may just underestimate him here given his scope for improvement on his 2nd run back.

Weight: 8-10

Days: 34

Mark Johnston won this race back to back in 2012 and 2013 and tries his hand with the 2nd placed horse in the race last year, Rochester House.

Rochester House bucks key trends of past race winners including 18 of the last 19 winners of the race being 7 years or younger, 12 of which were aged 4 or 5 years old.

Progeny of Galileo also have a respectable 16% strike rate and a 32% place rate at Goodwood, further highlighting his suitability to the track.

He's won upon softer conditions before, meaning the ground won't be a problem and he's now 1lb below his last winning mark.

He's been given the application of first time blinkers, which in combination with a return to a favoured C&D, may just bounce him right back into form in this at a big each-way price.

Baaeed is a well fancied, short priced favourite to take the Thoroughbred stakes and it's easy to see why given the colt is now 3 from 3, including a 4 length win on the step up to listed level last time out.

He's won with cut in the ground before so he's expected to act fine on the surface whilst progeny of Sea The Stars have a highly impressive 20% strike rate and 48% place rate at Goodwood.

He's entitled to improve once more for the step up into Group company and trainer William Haggas has a well touted 20.48% strike rate at the track.

Charlie Appleby

Charlie Appleby is currently operating at a 36% strike rate across the last 14 days whilst also being the clear top trainer at Goodwood across the last 3 seasons with a 28.57% strike rate at the track.

He's represented by Path Of Thunder in the Golden Mile who's drawn well in stall 3 for the contest with 14 of the last 16 winners being drawn 9 or lower.

The son of Night Of Thunder has acted on rain softened ground in the past and the application of blinkers last time out really looked to do the trick as he assertively won by 3 lengths at Newmarket in a class 3.

The blinkers are on once more and he's well weighted off 9 stone for the contest; may just be more to come from him here.

The in-form James Doyle rides Acquitted for the equally in form, Hugo Palmer in the Golden Mile, both men operating at 29% strike rates across the last 14 days.

Acquitted relished the step back up to 8f last time out in the Coral Challenge Sandown handicap and finished a close up 3rd behind Maydanny and Magical Morning.

Both Maydanny and Magical Morning currently sit at the top end of the market however both will prefer faster ground and it looks likely Acquitted can now reverse that form with conditions in his favour, having won over heavy in the past.

Despite being drawn a little wider than you would have liked in stall 13, he's overpriced in this, and remains a solid each way pick.

The worlds best 5f horse wasn't quite up to scratch last time out in the Kings Stand after an interrupted training schedule caused a delayed return for Battaash.

Charlie Hill's gelding is on course for a 5-timer in this race and is arguably seen to his very best when running at Goodwood, so despite issues, the 7yo would still take a lot of stopping in this race.

The runner is expected to improve on last time outs display and should take all the beating if back close to his best.

Mogul was a C&D winner at Goodwood last year and the son of Galileo showed a strong suitability to the track.

Following that win, he subsequently twice landed Group 1 spoils in France and Hong Kong however was far from his best in the Group 1 Coronation Cup last time out.

Aidan O'Brien crosses the Irish Sea to now try his hand at the Queens Plate Glorious stakes and the drop down to Group 3 level at a preferred track may just spark Mogul back into form.

The in form Ryan Moore rides whilst Mogul has also shown his ability over the softer ground in the past.

Tropez Power appreciated the drop back down to 6f last time in a novice race at Newbury where he won the race in the stewards room.

Trainer, Richard Hannon is often known of his horses going under the radar to step up in class and be competitive in the bigger races and his runner Tropez Power may just be at his best over a stiff 6f on soft ground given his progeny Cotai Glory.

Progeny of Cotai Glory are known to appreciate the slower conditions whilst having a 23% strike rate and a 46% place rate at stiff tracks like Goodwood.

Richard Fahey

Adeb, for Richard Fahey, is a 2nd Cotai Glory runner in the race who will appreciate a stiff Goodwood track upon soft conditions.

The runner improved to win on his 3rd time of asking last time out at Beverley and the form was boosted by the 3rd home that day who went on to step up in class and win next time out, despite being beaten by 4 1/2 lengths by Adeb.

He should now improve for the step up to 6f and is drawn nice and low in stall 2 for the race.

The Queen's runner, Wink Of An Eye, has now won 3 on the bounce, including the last twice upon rain softened ground.

Stepping up into a class 3 for the affair, the manner of his latest victory at Sandown, a 2 length comfortable win over 10f, has shown that the runner should relish the challenge of an extra furlong up in grade.

Progeny of Dubawi are often top performers at Goodwood with a highly respectable 16% strike rate and 50% place rate over middle distances at the track.

The in-form, Ryan Moore, is eye-catchingly booked on board for Goodwood specialist trainer William Haggas who has a whopping 29% strike rate when teaming up with Moore.

Tribal Art

Days: 36

Tribal Art may just fly under the radar here for trainer Mark Johnston who steps his colt up to 11f for the first time after racing over the mile and extended mile in his opening 3 runs.

He's impressively bred for Sheikh Hamdan with his dam being the unraced full sister to the outstanding 1m 2f multiple Group 1 winner Dubai Millenium, showing that Tribal Art is bred to stay the distance.

Progeny of his sire, Farhh, have a highly impressive 33% strike rate and a 58% place rate at Goodwood, thereby showing a high potential for there to be suitability to the track.

If improving for the step up to 11f, there's a good chance he can get involved at a price.
