The first race of the afternoon on the second day of the St Leger festival sees a Class 3 Handicap over six furlongs and at a nice each way price the top weighted Mountain Brave should be in the mix.

The four year old filly for Mark Johnston although giving weight away could slip the field if going from the front like she has done of late.

This season she has been seen winning twice, on her second start of the season over course and distance when making all and then three starts ago off a mark of 92 at Chester.

Now only 3lb higher she was last seen running well at Salisbury in a better event than this and now dropping in class for this event at a track she handles could make her the value in the race.

The Class 2 Nursery Handicap sees a fairly big field of runners heading to post and with that in mind we have picked out two each way players.

The first is the Richard Fahey trained Form Of Praise who looks to be a nicely bred daughter of Mehmas that does not lack any pace.

Having been tried over both five and six furlongs this term and running consistently in novice company, last time out she was seen getting off the mark at Hamilton on handicap debut.

She is only 2lb higher today for her latest win and having already ran credibly over 6f at the track before behind a next time out winner she cant be dismissed at an each way price.

Gnat Alley at a similar price for Tim Easterby looks to be weighted to go well having been waiting for her career to get going when being put into handicaps.

The two year old ran at Beverley on debut finishing a fair fourth of 10 behind Form Of Praise and then backed that up on soft ground over the same course and distance with another fourth placed finish.

Sent to Pontefract she was underwhelming but was then given her first try in handicap company at Ripon and was a close up fourth in a decent race.

The daughter of Caravaggio looks to be better than her mark of 65 and now stepping up to this trip it should be the making of her.

Roger Varian

A very interesting event on the card is the Weatherbys Scientific £200,000 2-Y-O Stakes and we are siding with the favourite Jazz Club.

The Roger Varian trained 200,000gns purchase has been seen three times to date, looking to need his first experience at Haydock, but then learning a lot for that experience to finish a good third behind a nice type at Nottingham.

Progressing once more the Magnier, Tabor and Smith owned juvenile got off the mark in emphatic style last time out at Windsor over 6f and now on a mark of 87 there looks to be much more to come.

The trainer has a superb record in this race landing it in 2017 and 2020 and it would not be surprise to this son of Starspangledbanner go close.

Inform Ryan Moore rides.

One of the feature events of the afternoon at Town Moor is the Group Two May Hill Stakes over a mile and we can't look past Inspiral for John & Thady Gosden.

The Cheveley Park Stud owned juvenile is one of the most inexperienced horses in the field, but obviously holds bundles of ability off the back of her debut.

The daughter of Frankel on debut was seen landing a seven furlong event on good to firm at Newmarket in superb style, with the second and third in that race since going on to frank it.

She then went onto boost that form line herself last time out stepping up to Listed company and being a standout winner of the Star Stakes at Sandown.

The filly looks highly progressive and deserves her chance in this field and if handling the extra furlong, which she looks like she will then she should make it 3/3 for her career.

Yard won the race last year.

Another superb event on day two is the Park Hill Fillies stakes and with this Group Two event sparking a decent field of runners we have put up two each way selections.

The first is the Ralph Beckett trained Yesyes who makes big appeal in this field being reliable at the trip and weighted to go close on her first try in Group Two company.

The daughter of Camelot was first seen this term in May winning on soft ground over 11.5f at Hamilton in taking style, beating the talented Eileendover, Thousand Oaks and Constanta who have all won since.

She made it back to back wins when running over the same trip at Lingfield next time out, seeing off a nice runner in second.

The filly then went to Newmarket and was given a slight reality check in the Listed Chalice Stakes when see back in fourth behind some inferior horses at 1m4f.

However, she was stepped up in trip at Chester next time out in another Listed event and took it in her stride to see off Dancing King to take a nice event, with the second since winning a good race.

The further she goes the better she becomes and if improving once more her price of 6/1 looks very attractive.

Ed Walker
Age: 3
Weight: 8-9

Days: 21

At a much bigger price is Glenartney for the inform Ed Walker team, and although being the outsider of this field she looks to have a big chance at grabbing a place.

The three year old filly was seen twice as a juvenile getting off the mark at the second time of asking, but was then seen again this term when finishing fifth of seven in a stellar renewal of the Musidora Stakes at York behind superstar Snowfall.

Dropped back to Listed company over 1m3f at Hamilton she was a good third behind two nice types and then backed that up last time out when another good third at York in the Listed Galtres Stakes.

The further she has gone the better she seems to have become and this trip might be the making of her and at 25/1 it is worth finding out.

Ed Walker could not be in better form at the moment currently running at a strike rate of 37% over the last two weeks with 11 winners from 30 runners.

Inform Buick in the saddle aswell a bonus.

The final selection of the afternoon comes in the seven furlong Class 2 Handicap and we can't get away from the favourite Modern News for Godolphin.

The three year old gelding was a bright juvenile, winning on debut at Newmarket over 6f and then stepping up to 7f for the Listed Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot when running to a good standard.

He signed off last term finishing a narrow second behind the smart Twaasol at Epsom, but then was not seen for close to a year.

The son of Shamardal returned in July this term and picked up where he left off winning a decent handicap over 7f at Newmarket and he should be much fitter for this event.

Big player.
