The first race on day three of Glorious Goodwood is the Coral Kincsem Handicap over 1m2f and we have picked out two horses at other ends of the market that can go well.

The first is the Sir Michael Stoute trained Perfuse who looks as solid as a rock in this event racing off the mark of 94 as he did at Royal Ascot last time out.

Second on debut behind Knockbrex at Pontefract on soft ground over 1m2f, he then went to Nottingham on heavy ground and travelled like a dream to bolt up by close to eight lengths.

He made it back to back successes this time on quicker ground under a penalty at Doncaster when stepping up to 1m4f and beating Inquiring Minds by two lengths.

Last seen at 1m4f again at Royal Ascot in the King George V Handicap Stakes when running a valiant race for along way and still managed to grab fifth of the 19 runners.

Getting back to a softer surface, down to 1m2f which might actually be his ideal trip and off the same mark of 94 he looks solid.

Entrancement

J: Thore Hammer Hansen
T: David Menuisier
N/A
Age: 3
Weight: 8-2
OR: 81
Days: 19

At a bigger price we are taking a swing at one near the bottom of the betting market for this one with the David Menuisier trained Entrancement being as big as 40/1 with most firms and will love the soft/heavy conditions that should be around for the start of day three at Goodwood.

At the back end of last season at Nottingham over 8.5f she got off the mark for her career having her first try on soft ground and revelling in the surface to land a handicap off a mark of 65.

Back this season for her three year old debut she ran a solid race on her first try at 1m2f again on soft ground at Nottingham, racing off 71 and only finishing just over two lengths behind the winner in a tight bunched finish.

Seen twice more this term when going over 1m2f at Goodwood on heavy ground she got off the mark for the season going on to bolt up by 6.5 lengths, again taking to the conditions like a pro.

Last at Salisbury on soft ground over 1m2f, this time racing in a tougher handicap off a mark of 81 she bumped into the talented La Isla Mujeres who was the well backed favourite on day two of the meeting in the penultimate race and ran a credible race in third.

Entrancement does race from 2lb out the Handicap but getting all the weight in the world, back at a track she handles well and in soft/heavy conditions that she revels in, she is going into the hottest contest of her life but she has so much going for her at a huge price.

Vandeek

J: Andrea Atzeni
T: Simon & Ed Crisford
N/A
Age: 2
Weight: 9-2
OR: N/A
Days: 13

One of the big races of the afternoon is the Group Two Richmond Stakes over over 6f and with our first selection a non runner we have delved back into the market and we are siding with Vandeek for Simon & Ed Crisford.

Seen just once to date at Nottingham on good to soft ground he basically did everything wrong in the early part of the race being slowly away, going to his left and also running very green.

However, the further he went the more the penny dropped and when getting himself together he absolutely flew home to go from last to first in a matter of strides to win the Maiden comfortably.

He is sure to improve a massive amount for that first experience and if not messing about at the start again he could be tough to catch.

Espionage

J: Ryan Moore
T: A P O'Brien

Age: 3
Weight: 9-3
OR: 112
Days: 30

Next up is the Group Three John Pearce Racing Gordon Stakes over 1m4f and Espionage for Aidan O'Brien is a fascinating contender.

Espionage is an interesting runner in the Group Three Gordon Stakes as we have only seen him once this season and we really don’t know where his ceiling is with him.

Seen three times as a juvenile last term when second on debut at Galway behind stablemate Alexandroupolis over 8.5f on soft ground, who was tipped to be one of Ballydoyle’s big hopes in the Derby division this season but it never materialised.

Espionage was then dropped back to 7f and got off the mark for his career beating another decent stablemate at the Curragh and he then finished his juvenile campaign off at Saint-Cloud in the Group Criterium International when a head second to Proud And Regal on heavy ground.

Strangely he has only been seen once this season starting later than most, but this event looks to have been a big first target for him as he returned at the start of July at Roscommon when easily landing the Listed Lenebane Stakes on his first try and 11.5f.

He took to the trip well and comfortably landed the event and although he faces much better opposition here he really could be anything and having soft/heavy ground form makes him the one to be on.

Blue Rose Cen

J: Aurelien Lemaitre
T: Christopher Head
N/A
Age: 3
Weight: 9-1
OR: 117
Days: 46

The feature race of the afternoon on Thursday from Goodwood is the Group One Nassau Stakes over a mile and we are siding with the French raider Blue Rose Cen who just has everything going for her.

A very bright juvenile over in France last term winning four of her six starts all on soft or very soft ground, including a nice Group Three over a mile at Longchamp and at the Arc meeting she took the Group One Prix Marcel Boussac by a superb five lengths.

Back as a three year old this term she has taken her form to a new level and has looked better than ever making her debut on heavy ground over a mile at Longchamp in the Group Three Prix De La Grotte when winning well.

She then backed that up over the same course and distance next time out in the same conditions taking the Group One French 1000 Guineas and didn’t stop there.

Last seen stepping up in trip to 10.5f at Chantilly she made it back to back Group Ones and five wins on the bounce when taking out the Group One Prix de Diane by four lengths from the Aidan O’Brien trained Never Ending Story.

Running over a similar trip is no problem as she is versatile and the ground has fell just how she wants it, she looks absolutely bullet proof to us.

Joe Fanning

Conde

J: Joe Fanning
T: Charles Hills
N/A
Age: 2
Weight: 8-5
OR: 73
Days: 20

A tricky punting event on Thursday from Goodwood is the Nursery Handicap over 7f and we like the look of Conde for trainer Charles Hills.

A horse that could thrive in this sphere is Conde who has been seen three times to date and they all look to have been runs setting him up for handicaps.

Needing the first run of his career when only beating one home in a 6f Maiden at Leicester, he then went to Newmarket and finished a better fifth only four lengths behind the winner in a Novice Stakes over the same distance.

Last seen at Chester on soft ground he finished a close third of seven behind a nice type for Hugo Palmer which was his best run to date.

Showing he handles soft ground and now stepping up to 7f which could bring improvement, given a mark of 73 that could be lenient for his handicap debut and he looks interesting.

Tom Marquand

Sea Eagle

J: Tom Marquand
T: William Haggas
N/A
Age: 3
Weight: 9-5
OR: 86
Days: 285

The Buccellati Handicap over a mile looks a very tricky event to call and for that reason we have split our stakes and picked out two runners that can go close.

The first is the William Haggas trained Sea Eagle who makes his handicap debut on Thursday afternoon and also has his first run since having a gelding operation.

A close fourth on debut in a decent Maiden over this races' course and distance on good to soft ground, he then went to Yarmouth and again ran well in defeat behind Lord Of Biscay and Obelix.

Last seen getting off the mark on the step back up to a mile at Chelmsford, going on to bolt up by three lengths, he now heads back to a course and distance he showed he handles and off a mark of 86 that could be very lenient.

Very interesting contender for a yard that can plot horses in handicaps especially having been gelded aswell.

Skysail

J: Dougie Costello
T: Marcus Tregoning
N/A
Age: 3
Weight: 9-8
OR: 89
Days: 20

In the same race at a bigger price and an extremely interesting contender is the Marcus Tregoning trained Skysail who since being stepped up to a mile looks a much more rounded horse.

A winner over 6f as a juvenile at Newbury, he then finished the season in the £150,000 Tattersalls October Auction Stakes when finding trouble in running.

Back as a three year old this term and stepped up to a mile over course and distance at Goodwood, he went on to score well on good to soft ground on handicap debut off a mark of 80.

Sent to Salisbury on extremely quick ground that is not really up his street, he ran no race but bounced back to form when last seen at Ascot when second to a well handicapped horse for William Haggas with Skysail giving over half a stone away to the winner.

Running off only 1lb here and getting cut in the ground over a course and distance he has won over makes him interesting.

Ornellaia

J: Kevin Stott
T: Dominic Ffrench Davis
N/A
Age: 2
Weight: 9-2
OR: N/A
Days: 21

The penultimate selection of the afternoon comes in the Maiden Fillies' Stakes over 7f and Ornellaia for Amo Racing looks one of the more likely winners of this race.

Given her debut at Newmarket in mid July in a hot Maiden Fillies' Stakes over 6f, she managed to finish a credible third behind a nice type in Sacred Angel.

Sacred Angel has since come out at Ascot and bolted up from the front in the Group Three Princess Margaret Stakes, which is superb form.

If improving for that run then she has to be in the mix.

Callum Shepherd

Holkham Bay

J: Callum Shepherd
T: William Knight
N/A
Age: 3
Weight: 8-8
OR: 80
Days: 21

The final race of the afternoon at Goodwood on Thursday is the World Pool Handicap over 5f and Holkham Bay for trainer William Knight looks the one to beat.

Making his debut in a Novice Stakes at Lingfield over 6f when running to a good level to finish a good second giving 5lb away, he then went to Lingfield and got off the mark for his career fairly easily.

Having a year off the track and returning as a three year old, many thought he might have needed the run but he put up a superb performance to only go down by a neck giving almost a stone away.

Being a son of Aclaim suggests that he will handle cut in the ground and making his handicap debut off a mark of 80 makes him interesting.
