Cork Sunday Preview - 09/12/2018

12:05 - Union Gap

The Galtee 3 Y O Maiden Hurdle sees the turf race lay the way for UNION GAP.

With 25 runners there’s plenty of chances for each to get into contention at different stages but this Gelding has seen improvement in as little as a few months, with 2m looking a much preferred distance with a strong second place at Gowran Park just a couple of weeks ago.

12:40 - Impatient Partner

We can see IMPATIENT PARTNER lead the way in the Charleville Cheese Maiden Hurdle.

This corker can see 4yo+ horses, with Barry Geraghty on board and a strong training stable of Noel Meade, winning its only race previously at Cork also but this time coming down by 3f and most likely with ground that can really suit this horse.

It’s been 250 days since the gelding came home at Cork in April and looks sure to stay in contention throughout and finish even stronger on the 2m mark.

13:10 - Robin De Carlow

The Kerry Group Stayers Novice Hurdle is a Grade 3 gem within this Irish Sunday of racing, with ROBIN DE CARLOW the strongest contender.

The form of which is enough to ensure this Filly is up there but prefers to stay around the back of the pack so don’t be alarmed to see Paul Townend head the rear throughout the long 3m course.

But with Willie Mullins Robin de Carlow has seen a win on this C&D just over a month ago when favourite at 5/4.

13:45 - Great Field

Kerry Group Hilly Way Chase is a Grade 2 race with horses with strong experience in the distance at Cork and GREAT FIELD is the obvious front runner all round.

Undefeated in the last five, finishing strongly at that, has seen major success in Ireland and this distance is really Great Field’s strong suit.

The likes of other high rated horses in this race shouldn’t see a stronger finish than the 7 year old and should lead the way with increasing pace toward the end.

14:15 - Forge Meadow

FORGE MEADOW is our clear pick for Kerry Group Irish European Breeders Fund Mares Novice Chase.

With Robbie Power aboard, this Filly has the best pace to finish the strongest and the form backs this up with places and wins throughout despite pulling up before a return to form in Oct.

Now seeming to much prefer the shorter 2m track should cruise home again since coming down grades last year.

14:50 - Spancil Hill

Low Low Handicap Hurdle has 17 runners but our pick also has one of the best forms for these 4yo’s.

SPANCIL HILL is coming off a 220 days break and has placed in the last 5 races, winning two of those.

We’ve seen that the 8yo can handle distance and so should keep the pace well throughout this shorter mark, the form on Heavy ground too is very notable and so should be backed well to complete this course on top.

15:20 – Takemeback

TAKEMEBACK is the pick for this Kerrymaid Novice Handicap Hurdle in what is set out to be quite an open race.

However, the Dam, Ballinlovaneeile means this horse should well be considered even on an outside chance with the market likely to move plenty before the race off.

The handicaps too matches up well but with its pace and the right conditions could see takemeback right up in contention and finish ahead of similar horses with less of the speed.
