Chester Thursday Preview - 09/05/19

13:50 - Copper Knight 10/3

The first race of the second day is the Class 2 Gateley PLC Handicap over five furlongs and we have gone for the Tim Easterby trained Copper Knight.

This five year old looks to have a great chance in the first race tomorrow drawn in stall one which is a huge plus and with the ground getting wetter and wetter it will suit this gelding more.

He is top weight but is a proven sprinter winning over course and distance before at this exact meeting back in 2017. One to watch.

14:25 - Circus Maximus

The next race of the day sees the Listed Homeserve Dee Stakes over 1 mile 2 furlongs and we have gone for the form horse in the race with Circus Maximus.

This Aidan O'Brien trained three year old has the best form coming into this race and handles ground with cut in it previously winning in heavy conditions.

In his four runs to date he has won one and finished third and fourth in a Group 3 and a Group 1 both times not to far behind the 2000 Guineas winner Magna Grecia.

15:00 - Drogon 7/1

The Class 2 Deepbridge Capital Handicap over 7 1/2 furlongs looks to be a hot contest and we have sided with the Tom Dascombe trained Drogon to land the spoils.

This three year old finished a solid second over seven furlongs in September last year and drawn in stall four on Thursday and has previously gone from the front, he might be difficult to catch.

He finished second on his latest start last year and for his seasonal debut he is two pounds lower than his last run which means he has a great chance of going well again.

15:35 - Kew Gardens

The feature race of the day is the Boodles Diamond Ormonde Stakes and in this Group 3 clash we have gone with the Aidan O'Brien trained Kew Gardens.

This four year old is a class above this field on his best day and last year landed the Group 1 St Leger at Doncaster over a similar distance.

Won't want to much rain but could go off very short if the race starts to fall apart and if being back to his best on his first run, we could see the start of a smart season for the Classic winner.

16:05 - The New Marwan

The penultimate selection of the day is the Richard Fahey trained The New Marwan and this two year old has a great chance in this Class 2 Maiden Stakes.

The Marwan Koukash owned colt is having his debut on Thursday and looks to have a smart pedigree being a half brother to four previous winners being the seventh foal from this family.

His owner loves bringing horses to this track and has a good strike rate with them, this son of Dark Angel could be a potential star and should be a nice price on the day also having a nice draw in stall two.

17:05 - Al Jellaby

The final selection of the day comes in the Partner Tech Handicap and in this Class 3 event over 1 mile 2 furlongs we have gone with the Clive Cox trained Al Jellaby.

This four year old gelding has already ran four times since the turn of the year to a good standard finishing third last time out at Doncaster over this distance.

That form reads well and going off the same mark from stall two gives him a great chance of entering the frame again, Adam Kirby on board.
