Who To Follow At Newmarket On Saturday - 15/05/21

Horse To Follow - Riot

The Class 3 Handicap over seven furlongs sees some very progressive horses take to post and Riot looks to be one massively on the upgrade.

The John & Thady Gosden trained gelding got off the mark at the fourth time of asking at Kempton in September 2019 over seven furlongs and then was off the track for 13 months.

He returned in October last year and massively needed the run after that long lay off, but at the start of April went to Chelmsford and was a much better third.

He got back on turf for the first time in over two years at Newmarket on his second start of the season and just ran no sort of race, being pushed along a fair way out.

However, he bounced straight back to from at the end of last month at Newcastle when a good second behind Zip, who went on to frank the form next time out.

Needs to start acting on turf but only 3lb higher than that second he looks a player.

Trainer To Follow - Charlie Appleby

Charlie Appleby has a superb record with his runners at flat racing HQ over the years and on Saturday has some big chances to get in the winners enclosure.

In the first race of the day he has newcomer Before Dawn That has a superb pedigree being out of Dark Angel and then in the Listed King Charles II Stakes Cloudbridge will be looking to show how good he is.

The penultimate event on the card sees the Appleby field New Exceed and Sayyida with both of them having huge chances off the back of their last runs.

Appleby over the last 12 months has managed 33 winners and 34 places from 129 runners at Newmarket which sees him pose a 25.58% strike rate at the track.

Jockey To Follow - William Buick

William Buick could have a field day at Newmarket on Saturday riding many of the favourites across the day and if not on the market principles still holding a big chance.

In the first he sits on newcomer Before Dawn and then sits on the Ed Dunlop trained John Leeper who is looking for back to back wins.

He was not without a chance in the third with the Godolphin owned Cloudbridge looking to back up his debut win and then after that Buick sits on the favourite Jumby in the six furlong handicap.

Another favourite for the Norwegian born rider comes in the Class 3 Handicap with the Cheveley Park owned Ametist having leading claims on his hat-trick bid.

Buick ends the card with Sayyida in the second last who is a half sister to Derby winner Masar and then in the finale he sits on another favourite Saaheq, who was a good second at Ascot in April.

The rider over the last 12 months has managed 39 winners and 37 places from 160 runners at Newmarket which sees him pose a 24.38% strike rate at the track.
