Who To Follow At Newmarket On Saturday - 10/07/21

Horse To Follow - Dragon Symbol

The feature race of the day is the Group One Darley July Cup Stakes over six furlongs and the horse the looks the value is the three year old Dragon Symbol.

He bolted up on debut under Hollie Doyle at Wolverhampton and quickly backed that up under a penalty. Moved into handicaps he made a mockery of a mark of 85 to record his hat trick.

Dropped in trip to five furlongs and moved into a conditions race, he again put up a stellar performance to another win. Rightly moved into graded company he contested the Group Two Sandy Lane Stakes at Haydock on bottomless ground.

He was just denied by outsider Rohaan by a nose who’s since won the Wokingham off an eye-watering mark of 112.

With strong form in the books we last saw Dragon Symbol be first past the post in the Commonwealth Cup only for the result to be overturned in the steward’s room afterwards.

He’s worth his chance here if making the most of his weight for age allowance and looks the value in the market.

Trainer To Follow - Charlie Appleby

Charlie Appleby is a trainer bang in form, having had winners galore over the last few weeks and on Saturday he has some big chances across the card.

In the first race of the day he fields the exciting Calm Skies who was a good second on debut and should learn a lot from that to take into this event.

Other big chances for the handler include Royal Fleet in the mile handicap, Native Tail in the Superlative Stakes and Creative Force in the July Cup.

Appleby over the last two weeks has seen his horses in flying form landing six winners from 19 runners which sees him pose a 32% strike rate.

Jockey To Follow - Oisin Murphy

The jockey to follow on the final day of the July meeting is the two time champion jockey Oisin Murphy who has managed to pick up a superb book of rides.

In the second race of the day he teams up with Andrew Balding with Nebulosa who holds bundles of ability but just needs to bounce back slightly from her last run.

He holds a big chance in the Superlative Stakes with Masekela who was well punted on at Royal Ascot, but his big chance of the day comes in the July Cup with Dragon Symbol, with the two having some unfinished business together.

Murphy has been in electric form of late landing nine winners from his last 45 rides which sees him pose a 20% strike rate for the last fortnight.
