Who To Follow At Ascot On Wednesday - 28/04/21

Horse To Follow - Nayef Road

The first of the big races on Wednesday at Ascot is the Group Three Sagaro Stakes over two miles and although favourite Stradivarius looks tough to beat, Nayef Road for Mark Johnston is the value pick.

The five year old son of Galileo was stepped up to the staying division last season having finished a close third in the Group One St Leger back in 2019.

In June 2020 the 100,000gns purchase made his seasonal debut in this race at Newcastle and went on to take it in fine style.

He then went into the Gold Cup at Royal Ascot and he finished a good second behind Stradivarius, with the superstar stayer giving arguably the performance of his career.

It was a case of playing second fiddle to Gosden's staying star once more in the Goodwood Cup and he ended the term at York in the Group Two Lonsdale Cup when a close third behind Enbihaar.

Nayef Road seems to go well fresh and it might be the best chance he has all season of beating Stradivarius.

Trainer To Follow - John Gosden

British trainers John & Thady Gosden could have a big day at Ascot on Wednesday with plenty of live chances throughout the afternoon.

His first big chance of the day comes in the Conditions Stakes over a mile and his horse Delta Bay was very impressive on seasonal debut and should definitely build on that run.

He obviously has a huge chance with Stradivarius in the Sagaro Stakes and another nice runner for him is the Lincoln winner Haqeeqy in the Listed Paradise Stakes.

The Gosden duo have made a highly successful start to the season and over the last two weeks it has seen him land 14 winners from his last 53 runners, which sees him pose a 26.42%.

Jockey To Follow - Tom Marquand

Finally, Tom Marquand has recently returned back over to the UK after a successful spell in Australia which saw him partner Addeybb to their second Group One Queen Elizabeth Stakes.

Marquand since his return to the UK has been in flying form, landing five winners from 15 rides over the last fortnight which has seen him pick up a win rate of 33.33%.

On Wednesday he has a few live chances across the day, with his best chance of the day coming in the Fillies' Conditions Stakes with Ready To Venture.
