Trainer Michael Hanlon on Thursday is looking to have a winner on the all weather at Southwell, sending just one runner to the Nottinghamshire based track on the day, which sees him come all the way over from Ireland with just one runner.
When we see trainers coming such a long way to just run the one horse we like to highlight it, as we believe they would not becoming all that way if it did not have a real chance.
Hanlon is a very Shrewd trainer and fields Mercury in the Class 6 Handicap over six furlongs and although this horse has to overcome a long absence, he looks an interesting character.
The nine year old is a previous multiple winner that although his form before his lay off was poor, has shown on multiple occasions he can mix it in better company.
He will need to be near his best against some of these seasoned handicappers but with Hollie Doyle taking the ride that intriguing jockey booking leaves the plot thickening
Hanlon has a superb record when bringing his horses over from Ireland to race, sending over 42 horses and landing 10 winners which sees him pose a strike rate of 24%.
