Tom Marquand Fined $2000 For Breaking Social Distancing Rules Down Under

Tom Marquand

The man of the moment Tom Marquand has been bought back down to earth after being fined $2000 along with stablehand Safid Alam who was fined $5000 after the pair came together in a moment of celebration after Addeybb landed the Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick.

Marquand was obviously delighted with his second black type win down under but after an investigation it was found that he was over zealous with his celebrations and was found to be breaching social distancing rules.

The pair were charged and pleaded guilty to breaking rule AR232(b) of 'having failed to comply with an order and/or direction of the Stewards in that after jumping off Addeybb the jockey touched the stablehands shoulder and also embraced in a hug which is against the current rules.

The two involved had not shown any prior illness symptoms and the stewards were happy to allow Marquand to continue riding on the rest of the card.

Overall it has been a stellar few months for the young jockey who has been tipped by many, including trainer William Haggas, that he could become the next top jockey in Britain but this small blip could have been easily avoided.
