One of the races of the weekend is the Group Two Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury and in honour of the race we have looked back at last year's renewal.
The then two year old Alkumait for trainer Marcus Tregoning was a very impressive winner of this Group Two event last year and to date it his best performance of his career.
Having made a fair debut in July 2020, he then got off the mark at Glorious Goodwood in a classy Maiden Stakes.
Off the back of that he was upped in class to the Group Two event and in the final strides he sauntered past horses to land the event fairly cosily.
He rounded off his juvenile campaign with a below par run in the Group One Dewhurst Stakes, where he ran no race at all.
His three year old career has not turned out to be what the yard thought it would with only being seen once at Newbury in the Greenham Stakes and he was looking to need the run.
A horse with bags of ability but has hardly been seen, but today we are looking back at his win in the Mill Reef.
