Lord North Lands Huge Gamble In Cambridgeshire

The big gamble at the weekend came in the feature race of the meeting at Newmarket on the Saturday in the Cambridgeshire Handicap when John Gosden's Lord North landed the spoils.

The three year old was odds of 25/1 early last week ahead of the Class 2 contest but before the off went as short as 9/2 which saw one of the biggest gambles of the season land.

Frankie Dettori rode the son of Dubawi to victory seeing off 29 other runners in the field which gave the jockey and trainer John Gosden back to back wins in the race.

Earthlight Lands Middle Park Stakes to stay unbeaten

Another feature race on the day was the Group One Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes and French raider Earthlight for trainer Andre Fabre took the spoils to extend his unbeaten record to five consecutive wins.

The Godolphin owned colt was favourite for the contest in the lead up to the race but just before the off slightly drifted before to delight of late backers who saw the juvenile score at around 11/4.

That was the two year olds first race in England seeing off some really smart youngsters on the day with the son of Sharmadal looking to have a really bright career next season as a three year old.

Royal Dornoch Sets New Two Year Old Track Record At Newmarket

The final eye-catcher from this weekend came in the first race of the Newmarket meeting on Saturday when outsider of the field for trainer Aidan O'Brien landed the Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes.

This has been seen typically from O'Brien with him having three runners in the race and the outsider of his three chances finished the best.

However, what added to the victory from Royal Dornoch was that the juvenile broke the two year old track record over a mile and he is another horse that will be an interesting contender for the 2000 Guineas.
