ITV Racing Tips for Today - Sunday 1st February

It's another bumper day for ITV Racing with a massive 11 live races on ITV on Sunday 1st February. With Musselburgh hosting some decent racing and Day Two of the Dublin Racing Festival kicking off over at Leopardstown. We've gone through the televised races and picked out our selections and fancies for the afternoon.

Mossy Fen Road 1/2

Mossy Fen Road looks a strong contender for the 12:55 at Musselburgh thanks to a combination of solid recent form and clear scope for improvement. He arrives unbeaten over hurdles, having won his last couple of starts comfortably, and has been well supported in the betting, which suggests confidence from connections.

His profile marks him down as a progressive type, and with his trainer enjoying good results with similar horses over this sort of trip, conditions look set for him to take another step forward and make a winning impact here.

Final Demand 2/5

Final Demand could be hard to beat in the 13:10 at Leopardstown given the level of form he’s already shown over fences this season. He arrives as a strong favourite after a couple of authoritative wins, including at the highest level, and has looked a natural chaser with fluent, efficient jumping throughout.

Trained by Willie Mullins, he has the class, stamina and tactical versatility for this trip, and if he repeats his recent performances, he sets a very high standard that his rivals may struggle to match.

Dedicated Hero 2/1

He appears to be improving now that he’s switched to fences. He made a promising start to his chasing career with a strong runner-up effort last time, shaping as though there’s more to come with that experience under his belt.

He jumps soundly, should be well suited by this trip, and with further progress likely now entering handicap company, he has the profile of a horse capable of taking a step forward and going very close here.

He’s run creditably at this level, often finishing strongly and putting in solid efforts over similar trips, which suggests the longer distance here may play to his strengths.

With experience around Leopardstown and a typically honest, front-running style, he could be well placed to dictate or stay in touch with the main contenders and pick up further improvement on this quick turnaround.

Koukeo 2/1

Koukeo looks a strong player in the 13:55 at Musselburgh on the back of a pair of convincing chase victories that suggest he’s thriving since switching disciplines. He took well to fences from the outset and backed that up by winning again in handicap company, showing a good blend of sound jumping and strong finishing effort.

Despite a rise in the weights, he still looks fairly treated, should be well suited by this trip and likely ground, and with his confidence clearly high, further progress wouldn’t be a surprise as he looks capable of extending his winning run.

Marine Nationale 2/1

He finished a close second in this sort of company at Leopardstown last month, beaten only narrowly, and has proven he stays this trip well and handles Irish big‑race conditions competitively.

He’s also a proven Grade 1 performer with a strong official rating, and with his trainer and jockey combination clicking and likely to get him into a prominent position, he has the class and recent form to go one better here if he jumps and travels like he can.

How About No 14/1

Comes into this race with solid recent form in competitive company, having finished fourth in a strong Haydock handicap over 2 m in December, showing he handles a similar trip and ground well. His official rating (around 101 with a Racing Post Rating of about 120 from his latest run) suggests he’s handicapped within range of his ability, and at six years old he’s still relatively unexposed at this level, so further improvement wouldn’t be a surprise.

He also has winning form in decent races and plenty of experience under his belt, which could help him get into a prominent position and be competitive throughout this 2 m 3 f contest on good‑to‑soft ground.

Uncle Pat 18/1

Genuine contender here because he arrives here on the back of a consistent spell of form and is weighted within striking range on his official rating of 123. He finished second at Limerick last time out over about 2 m 3 f, showing he stays this sort of trip well and handles soft ground, and he’s also posted a solid placed effort at Navan in a tougher contest earlier this season.

With eight runs over fences under his belt, he’s gaining valuable experience, and trained by Willie Mullins — who gets good performances from his handicap chasers — Uncle Pat’s mix of recent consistency, stamina for this 2 m 5 f test and proven ability in similar company make him one to consider for the win at a priec if he repeats his best.

Rock My Way 5/2

Heads the market with a profile well suited to a staying handicap over nearly 4 m. Rated OR 139, he carries a light weight for this level of race and has already shown he stays extreme distances well, which is crucial in a marathon test like this.

He ran eighth in the Welsh National last time out on much deeper ground, but prior to that he scored impressively at Ascot over a similar long trip by 11 lengths, showing he can dominate when conditions suit.

With his experience, proven stamina, and strong handicap mark, he has every chance of resuming winning ways back in calmer waters here.

Lossiemouth 6/5

The seven‑year‑old mare has won 13 of her 16 completed starts over hurdles, including top‑level contests such as the December Hurdle at Leopardstown, where she won decisively last time, and other big‑race victories at Cheltenham and Punchestown, showing she handles high‑pressure Grade 1 company with aplomb.

Rated at around 159 and partnered by Paul Townend for leading trainer Willie Mullins, she has both the form figures and class edge in a competitive but small field, making her a very solid candidate to come out on top if she repeats her best so really hard to see her being beat today.
