ITV Racing Tips for Today

ITV Racing are live from three courses on Friday 1st May, with the Guineas meeting kicking off at Newmarket and Royal Meeting trials at Ascot. With listed action coming from Goodwood, there's seven live races to get stuck into. We've taken a look at all the televised races for our tips and selections for the afternoon.

Tip: 2.20 Newmarket

Poseidon’s Warrior 8/11

Sets a strong standard here with an impressive display in a novice event last season and an eye-catching 2nd over a shorter trip at this course on seasonal comeback. Steps up slightly in trip now and will relish this extra distance. Trainer Charlie Appleby has won 3 of the last 5 renewals.

Tip: 2.35 Ascot

Tabletalk 9/2

Improved for being stepped up in trip last season, hitting the frame twice over 14 furlongs and took his form to another level when 2nd in a Group 2 handicap in Riyadh in February. Unexposed as a stayer and can find some improvement in this sphere.

Tip: 2.55 Newmarket

Lake Como 9/2

Improved from winning a handicap at Southwell over a mile to be a very creditable 3rd in a deep looking conditions race at Kempton last time out. Ran to a higher mark than 89 there but retains that rating for his return to handicaps. Stays well over a mile and will relish the stiff finish at Newmarket.

Tip: 3.10 Ascot

Wise Approach 6/4

Overcame a stumble at the start of the Middle Park Stakes to power home and get the better of both Brussels and Coppull who re-oppose here. Buick has opted to make the trip to Ascot instead of Newmarket and he can confirm the form with Brussels and Coppull despite his Group One penalty.

Tip: 3.30 Newmarket

Bay City Roller 5/2

Ran well fresh on his first outing of last season to chase home Opera Ballo before a consistent campaign in France, finishing close in several group races. Signed off the season with a Group One in Germany and returns under a penalty but clear top rated in this field.

Tip: 3.50 Goodwood

Crystal Flyer 40/1

Won well in a handicap over C+D as a 3 year old and went close over 14 furlongs here on her last start that season. Won fresh last season in a handicap and put in her next best outing of the season at this venue over 14 furlongs. Returns for a new yard now in what looks weaker looking listed contest. Needs to put her best foot forward but is suited by this course and can find improvement for her new stable.

Tip: 4.05 Newmarket

Elarak 7/2

Top weight for this contest but is a classy type and took apart a handicap over C+D at the end of last season in emphatic style. Shaped well on seasonal comeback at Thirsk, travelling well before fading but that effort will have left him spot on for this. Not much wriggle room in his mark of 103 but is a class above his rivals here.
