ITV Racing are live from both Doncaster and the Curragh, for the final day of the St Leger meeting at Doncaster and the finale of Irish Champions weekend from the Curragh.
With a plethora of top class group action from Ireland and some strong races to round out the week from Doncaster, we've gone through all the live racing to pick out our tips and selections for the afternoon.
God Of War 11/1
Looks overpriced for this and seemingly got away lightly with only a 3lbs hike in the weights for his win at Sandown, staying on well late to lead just before the finish.
Goes well with a bit of cut in the ground and looks at his best over 7 furlongs. Has some strong form in the books this campaign and still isn’t unfairly treated at the weights.
Has won over course and distance before and can outrun a double digits price.
Composing 6/4
This is a cracking renewal between the top 2 in the market but it might just be worth siding with the Aidan O’Brien runner Composing off the back of her facile success in the Debutante Stakes.
She might just have the Stamina to cope with the slower ground and the 7 furlongs better than Venetian Sun who puts her unbeaten record on the line with a trip over to Ireland.
If this becomes about stamina rather than speed, Composing should just hold the edge.
Pocklington 5/1
Has been in good form this season in sprints, only being seen three times in the campaign but being in the mix on all of his outings.
Second in a good sprint handicap on the all-weather before a close 5th at York, only beaten 0.75L.
Went close again at York over 6 furlongs when last seen, he shapes as if this 6.5 furlong trip will be absolutely perfect and is still well enough handicapped to be bang there. Geoff Oldryd’s yard is going well at the minute and Pocklington might have just found the perfect opportunity to get his head in front.
Bucanero Fuerte 5/1
An interesting sprinter for the Adrian Murray yard and despite being well beaten in this last year, it can be difficult for 3 year olds to find their feet in the top class sprints against the older horses.
Bucanero Fuerte has a great record at the Curragh was 4 of his 6 career wins coming at this venue and with there being plenty of cut in the ground this will become about stamina late on.
Stays 6 furlongs, loves the course, should go well again.
Quiet Resolve 14/1
Not a race to get massively involved in as a charity race for retired Jockeys but Sammy Jo Bell has a terrific record riding in this race, winning the 2019, 2022 and 2024 renewals.
She gave Hartswood a brilliant spin last year to stay on from well off the pace to get up late and has a real fitness edge over some of the other jackeys.
She’s always worth keeping on side in this race is you’re having a go.
Gstaad 10/11
Just looked to lack a gear change over 6 furlongs against Venetian Sun in the Prix Morny but plugged on well to be 2nd behind the unbeaten mare.
This was the logical step for the son of Starspangledbanner now as he tackles 7 furlongs for the first time representing the stable that have farmed this race over the last few years.
Should relish the trip and sets the standard at the top of the market.
Queen Of Mougins 5/1
A consistent performer last season, including a close 3rd in this race last year, only being beaten by a length.
Has only been seen once this campaign, when returning in a 6 furlong handicap at the Curragh and carrying a heavy weight to an easy victory, scoring by over 2 lengths.
Is versatile for ground conditions and looks a better filly now a 4 year old. The one to beat if she’s in the same mood as for her success at the Curragh.
Al Riffa 9/4
Looked to relish a staying trip when upped to 14 furlongs for the first over course and distance back in July, winning easily by 5 lengths in a group 2.
Has been kept fresh for this since and looks a strong recruit to the staying ranks after coming 2nd to Rebel’s Romance at Royal Ascot.
Should just have the speed to get the better of Illinois.
Jer Batt 6/1
A likeable sprinter for connections who’s been relatively consistent this term, finishing in the places in three of his five outings for the season.
He went close under top weight on soft ground at Yarmouth on his penultimate outing before a well beaten 3rd at Haydock last week.
Is being turned out quickly by connections but has been eased to a generous looking mark of 88 and he’s gone well over this course and distance before. Doesn’t mind some cut in the ground and can go well back under Callum Rodriquez.
