ITV Racing Tips for Today - Sunday 3rd May

After Bow Echo's impressive display in the 2000 Guineas on Saturday, it's time for the fillies to have their day in the spotlight for 1000 Guineas day at Newmarket. With six live races on ITV and four coming from flat HQ at Newmarket, we've gone through all the live races to pick out our selections and tips for the afternoon.

Sacred Ground 9/4

John and Thady Gosden have started the flat season well, operating at a 28% strike rate in the last two weeks and send their listed placed filly for this. Shaped nicely over a mile in a juvenile contest at this venue last season to be 2nd, she looked like one that would appreciate a longer as a 3 year old and bred for success. Can continue her progression here.

Ziggy Starshine 9/4

Got the better of Seed Ya Later at Bath on debut and that run has worked out well with that rival coming out and winning to give the form some substance. Good experience in the books, she’ll have learnt plenty from her debut effort and can make it a quick 2-2 here.

Cathedral 9/2

Put in her career best effort at the end of last season when upped in trip at the Breeders’ Cup meeting and ran well on her seasonal comeback recently over a mile on the all-weather. Looks ideally treated by this slight nudge up in trip and will have blown the cobwebs away with her comeback run. Top rated in the field and can assert her dominance.

Square Necker 2/1

Was well fancied to give Constitution Hill a race at Southwell back in February but had to settle for 2nd behind the Henderson superstar. Makes the switch to handicap company now and doesn’t look badly treated off a mark of 85 or his debut in this sphere. Steps up in trip slightly which will unlock more improvement.

Many Men 7/1

A specialist at this distance and had a solid 3 year old campaign coming 2nd in the Melrose Handicap at York. Looked in need of his recent comeback at Musselburgh, fading late on. Will come on for that effort and a mark of 100 isn’t beyond his scope.

True Love 7/1

A solid juvenile campaign saw her claim the Group One Cheveley Park Stakes at this venue before a slightly lacklustre run over a shorter trip at the Breeders’ Cup. Returned for this season with a good display at Leopardstown, staying on well late to win over 7 furlongs. Looks well ready to tackle the mile now and is race fit with a run under her belt this campaign.
