Magical Sunset

J: Kevin Stott
T: Richard Hannon
N/A
Age: 3
Weight: 9-2
OR: 100
Days: 182

One of a few who have had more than one outing in their careers, winning three of her first six runs on the flat for Richard Hannon. A win over 6f at Windsor was followed by a couple of average runs but two wins in a row at Leicester and then Newbury in class one listed event over 7f has connections hoping for more improvement here.

Managed to edge out fellow runner Fully Wet by five lengths in that Newbury success and another big run from the three-year-old is expected here. Should be in with a shout.

Swingalong

J: Clifford Lee
T: K R Burke
N/A
Age: 3
Weight: 9-2
OR: 107
Days: 210

Karl Burke sends three-year-old Swingalong to the Dubai Duty Free Stakes at Newbury for her sixth run on the flat, having won two of her first five starts. A class four novice win at Ripon was followed by her winning the Group Two Lowther Stakes at York in August before a decent effort in the Group One Cheveley Park Stakes over 6f at Newmarket in September, behind Mawj, Meditate and Lezoo.

Another good run could be on the way down in company for the 107-rated sprinter. Clifford Lee does the steering.

Olivia Maralda

J: David Egan
T: Roger Varian
N/A
Age: 3
Weight: 9-2
OR: 105
Days: 211

Roger Varian sends two for this Newbury contest, with Olivia Maralda and Youngest. The former makes her debut for her new yard here, having finished ninth in Rockfel Stakes last time out on her last outing for former trainer Michael O’Callaghan. Decent effort when second in Group Two Debutante Stakes at Curragh in August last year behind Meditate after winning here in a class four beforehand.

Goes fresh here after seven months off for new yard, one to not be discounted on debut for Varian despite this being a good race. David Egan is booked to ride.

Fully Wet

J: Robert Havlin
T: John & Thady Gosden
N/A
Age: 3
Weight: 9-2
OR: 91
Days: 182

Fully Wet is one of three for John & Thady Gosden in this contest, with Soul Sister and Bridestones being the other two. Fully Wet has had four runs in her career so far, winning twice at Goodwood and Chelmsford City either side of finishing 14th in Group Three Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot in June.

The three-year-old finished second to Magical Sunset six months ago over this C&D but this is tougher. May struggle to impose herself on this company.

Age: 3
Weight: 9-2

Charles Hills sends his filly Lady Alara to the Dubai Duty Free Stakes at Newbury on Saturday following the three-year-old’s first three runs on the flat yielding a win, a third-place finish and eighth-place finish at Newbury, Sandown and Newmarket respectively.

Struggled on her first grouped outing last time out in Group Three Sweet Solera Stakes over 7f at Newmarket to finish eighth and enters another tough race here in group three company.

Returns after 259 days off the track here and has a lot to find.

Mottisfont

J: Oisin Murphy
T: Hughie Morrison
N/A
Age: 3
Weight: 9-2
OR: 94
Days: 226

94-rated sprinter who makes her fifth start in her career, having won by a length to Almutawakel on debut at Ffos Las back in July last year over 7f. Made the step up to group three company on her next outing at Newmarket in August to finish third, not far off winner Lakota Sioux.

Has performed ok in better company on her last few outings without really seriously troubling the leaders and will need to find more after seven months off the track.

Hector Crouch

Liberalist

J: Hector Crouch
T: Michael Bell
N/A
Age: 3
Weight: 9-2
OR: 78
Days: 18

Liberalist is the current market outsider, at about 50/1, having run three timed on the flat in her short career so far. She hasn’t been out of the top three since her second-place finish debut at Newmarket, finishing third at the same course next time and then winning Thirsk class five in earlier this month (a head to Classic Puzzle).

This requires a lot more and remains to be seen how she will cope with a big step up in company here. Hector Crouch does the steering.

Stenton Glider

J: Tom Marquand
T: Hugo Palmer
N/A
Age: 3
Weight: 9-2
OR: N/A
Days: 210

Hugo Palmer sends one for this contest at Newbury on Saturday in the shape of Stenton Glider. The three-year-old filly makes her second start on the flat for Palmer here, having won well on debut in September last year over 7f at Chester in a class three. Ended up two and a half lengths clear to 1/4fav Prepense when priced at 18/1 and should have more to offer.

This is a tougher test for her, but she ran on well on debut and looks likely to improve further. Lots of promising runners involved here so it won’t be easy.

Age: 3

Three-year-old filly who makes her debut for new yard here, having previously been with Tom Clover. Followed up back-to-back wins on her first two starts at Chelmsford City and Newbury with fifth in a group three at Newmarket and eighth in Miesque Stakes at Chantilly last time out.

Tough assignment here for the 94-rated filly. Promising jockey Billy Loughnane is booked to ride.

NON-RUNNER

Youngest

J: NON-RUNNER
T: Roger Varian
N/A
Age: 3
Weight: 9-2
OR: 86
Days: 197

Roger Varian sends two for this Newbury contest over seven furlongs in the form of Youngest and Olivia Maralda. This three-year-old Youngest’s sire is Dubawi, and the filly won on debut at Leicester back in September last year, beating Behind The Scenes by just under a length. Struggled in the Oh So Sharp Stakes last time out at Newmarket (tenth of 11) at group three level.

Should still have more to offer but faces another stiff assignment against a lot of promising fillies.

Bridestones

J: William Buick
T: John & Thady Gosden
N/A
Age: 3
Weight: 9-2
OR: N/A
Days: 186

John & Thady Gosden send three to this race from their yard in the form of Bridestones, Soul Sister and Fully Wet. Bridestones has had one run so far, winning on her debut at Yarmouth over 1m in October, beating Kristal Klear by just under three lengths, running on well to show lots of encouragement.

Is a half-sister to many winners and further improvement should be on the way, as she makes her seven-furlong debut. Big player.

Ralph Beckett sends one for the Dubai Duty Free Stakes at Newbury in the shape of three-year-old winning debutant Remarquee. The filly won on her racing debut over 6f at Salisbury back in September last year, beating John & Thady Gosden’s 5/6fav Bresson by just over a length.

Looks able to improve more for Beckett and makes the step up to 7f and grouped company here at Newbury on Saturday. Rob Hornby does the steering on the current market favourite.

N/A
Age: 3
Weight: 9-2

Soul Sister is one of three runners in the Dubai Duty Free Stakes here at Newbury on Saturday for John & Thady Gosden. She has had just the one start on the flat so far, winning on debut at Doncaster last October over 1m, beating Doom by a head at 6/1.

Makes a big step up here from class five to grouped company and Frankie Dettori is on board. Tough ask on group debut.

Embrace

J: Jim Crowley
T: Owen Burrows
N/A
Age: 3
Weight: 9-2
OR: N/A
Days: 147

Owen Burrows sends lightly raced three-year-old Embrace to this Newbury contest over 7f on Saturday, after finishing first in 7f class four novice at Wolverhampton back in November, beating Way To Amarillo by three and a half lengths. That was a welcome victory having finished sixth on debut at Kempton earlier that month.

The filly is open to more improvement and shouldn’t be completely dismissed, although this is a tougher assignment for the three-year-old. Jim Crowley does the steering.
