Breeder's Cup Preview Day Two Tips - 1st November

It's Day Two of the Breeder's Cup meeting of 2025, with the older horses getting their chance to shine on the Californian coast. A host of Grade One races on the dirt and turf, we've gone through the card and picked out our tips and selections for the evenings racing.

Motorious 4/1

An unlucky loser in this race last year, not getting the clearest of passages to the line and having to settle for 2nd behind Starlust.

He’s been in good form again this campaign for connections, winning twice and being awarded his most recent race in the steward’s room.

Can gain compensation for last year’s close call if getting a clearer run.

Straight No Chaser 8/1

Last year’s winner looks a big price to win the race again but might be lacking market support having been beaten at odds on his most recent outing. That can be forgiven with him returning from a long lay off and should have him nice and fit to regain his Breeder’s Cup crown. He is drawn wide but overcame a wide berth to win this 12 months ago.

Dorth Vader 11/2

The close form with Last year’s winner of this race Thorpedo Anna last time out catches the eye, only being defeated by the imperious dirt horse by a nose.

Relishes these good stamina tests and if she’s in the same form as she was when coming 2nd to Thorpedo Anna she can go close again for connections here.

Rebel’s Romance 10/3

The globetrotting superstar looks to make history and be the only horse to win three renewals of the Breeder’s Cup Turf. He takes on the younger and more progressive Minnie Hauk but from stall 1 he’s going to take some beating.

He goes well at Del Mar and has the perfect draw to be the first to challenge as the field swing for home. The Rattling fast ground and hustle and bustle might just be too much for Minnie Hauk off the back of her Arc 2nd.

Journalism 7/1

An interesting 3 year old in this field and had interlocking form with market leader Sovereignty before the later came out as a Non runner with an issue.

Was given a little too much to do last time out when overturned as a hot favourite but will get a furious pace to aim at here and Jose Ortiz gets the leg up. Can do his best work late on and power home into the frame.

Notable Speech 7/4

The Godolphin 4 year old heads the market for this and last year’s 2000 Guineas winner looks to have a great chance after winning a Grade One At Woodbine well when last seen. He’s in fine form and this pure speed test will be perfect for him from a low draw under William Buick.

The rapid turn of foot that Notable Speech possesses will be a lethal weapon around Del Mar as the field swing for home.

Nysos 13/8

There’s strong words around for Nysos winning the Dirt Mile this year, having won well on his two dirt runs this campaign.

He’s yet to win a grade one but took a Grade 2 handicap as a 1/10 favourite when last seen and seems to handle any kind of dirt surface.

Looks the one to beat for Bob Baffert.
