Macho Man (Triumph Hurdle)
Willie Mullins has trained the winner of the last four editions of the Triumph Hurdle, and the Irish maestro once again has a strong hand on Friday.
Macho Man could be the overlooked contender at the prices, with the four-year-old likely to come on for his run behind Proactif last time, where inexperience cost him.
Was a dominant winner on rules debut in France prior to that showing, beating Feel Gut by five lengths. Expected to come on for his stable debut effort, and a more polished jumping display will see him go close.
Dinoblue (Mares’ Chase)
Dinoblue has been the dominant force in the Mares’ Chase division over the last few years, winning this race with ease by an eight-length margin last March.
Has continued to perform at a very high level throughout this season against her own sex, most recently landing the Mares Chase at Naas by eleven lengths from Bioluminescence.
She is the pick of Mark Walsh on Friday, and despite this year’s edition of the race being hotter, the nine-year-old is still at the top of her game, and has a dominant record at the track.
Inothewayurthinkin (Gold Cup)
Inothewayurthinkin has been somewhat of a disappointment since streaking to victory in last year’s Gold Cup. Since that win, the eight-year-old was ninth in the Grade One Savills Chase and fell in the Grade One Irish Gold Cup.
However, a return to Cheltenham is a big plus for this two-time Festival winner, and there is certainly confidence within the J P McManus camp after opting not to supplement Fact To File for the race.
Gavin Cromwell has already been among the winners this week, and there will be no surprises to see the reigning champion put up a big defence of his crown.
