Hankelow 6/1

By Night Of Thunder so should appreciate the softer underfoot conditions at Haydock. Put in a career best effort on very soft ground in the French 2000 Guineas to be 3rd, putting in a bold bid from the front. Looks like he’ll be able to ping out and lead the field here and will appreciate the return to slow ground and drop back down to a mile.

Addison Grey 11/2

Relished the step up to 7 furlongs at Newbury last time out and won with a good bit in hand off a mark of 93 and a mark of 97 doesn’t look to be too harsh. Gets his ideal quick ground again and is unexposed over this distance. Likely more to come over this trip.

Rocket Boy 2/1

Looks to be better bred for the slow underfoot conditions and shaped like the quick ground left him a little flat footed in a listed contest at Sandown last time out. Brings the best form to the table however and with the emphasis on stamina he might just be more at home.

Ancestor 6/1

Won a strong looking maiden contest that’s worked out well since and did well to defy a penalty in a small field when last seen over 10 furlongs at Haydock. Looks to have gotten away lightly with an opening handicap mark of 92 and will likely find some improvement for this step up in trip. Unexposed and represents a master trainer in these types of races in William Haggas.

The Liffey 12/1

Multiple time winner on the All-weather and won a handicap in good style over C+D on his penultimate outing before going close in a decent contest at Goodwood. Gets a plumb draw in box one here and off a mark of 91 still looks nicely treated in the form he’s in.

Galilean Quality 2/1

Has handled soft ground in the past and put in a solid effort in the Melrose Handicap at York to be 2nd two weeks ago. Has been raised another 5lbs in the weights for that run, but looks the most likely to handle the testing conditions here and sets the standard on recent form.

Gethin 15/8

Put in an impressive performance at this venue before taking Ombudsman close in the Brigadier Gerard. Ran too badly to be true in the Coral Eclipse, pulling too hard and fading but returns to a synthetic surface and moves back up in trip. Brings some of the strongest form to the race and looks like he’ll have a good pace to aim at from Dubai Future.

Ashnak 10/1

The David O’Meara yard won this race in 2024 and saddle an interesting looking runner this year in Ashnak. The 4 year old has run well in a few good handicaps this season, notably coming 2nd on very soft ground at Ayr over a slightly shorter trip. Didn’t handle rattling fast ground last time out but gets back on testing ground, has a workable looking mark and shapes like this step up in trip will suit.

Kind of Blue 4/1

Has come 2nd in this race the last two years running and has handled testing ground in the past, when winning the Champion Sprint Stakes at Ascot last autumn. Returns off a short break at a course he goes well at on ground that he might just handle better than some of his rivals. Can go well here again.
