Nottingham Sunday Preview - 02/06/2019

14:10 - Al Aakif

The first race of the day is the EBF Maiden Stakes over five furlongs and we have gone for the William Haggas trained Al Aakif to land the spoils.

This un-raced two year old colt holds a strong pedigree and was bought for 160,000 Guineas. he is the fourth foal from this family and is a half brother to Alfie Solomons who won as a two year old over this distance.

He looks the pick of this unexposed field and if taking to the surface and to racing straight away he has to be feared going for a top yard and a top connections.

15:20 - Mayfair Spirit

The third race of the day sees the DS Derby Salon Handicap and we have gone for the Charlie Fellowes trained Mayfair Spirit to land the hat-trick.

This three year old gelding has been in fine form of late winning over course and distance two starts ago to gain the first win of his short career.

He then backed that up at Salisbury over the same distance, stepping up in Class and looking a very progressive youngster. If performing to the same standard he will be very tough to beat.

15:55 - Rasima

The feature race of the day at Nottingham is the Listed Nottinghamshire Oaks Stakes over 10 furlongs and we have gone for the in form Roger Varian trained Rasima.

This filly has been frustrating for most of her career but has also hit some bad luck in some of her races especially last time out in the Group 2 dahlia Stakes at Newmarket.

She lost a shoe on her way to post and it took an age for her to get it put back on and it ruined her preparation and when it came to the race she lost it again.

If she runs to her highest standard and finds her winning form for this hot trainer she can be dangerous in this field.

16:30 - Roman River

The Class 3 Handicap over five furlongs sees a lot of experienced sprinters and we have sided with the Martin Smith trained Roman River.

This four year old colt has a great chance of landing the spoils off the back of his last run when finishing a smart second over the same trip at Newmarket and only 3lb higher than that today makes him dangerous.

His last win came five starts ago at Haydock on fast ground and that is what he will get on Sunday so is one to keep an eye on at a nice price.

17:05 - Superseded

The penultimate race of the day at Nottingham is the Class 6 Handicap over five furlongs and we have gone for the top weighted Superseded to land the contest.

This John Butler trained three year old has started to find his form in his last few outing finishing a winning well two starts ago at Wolverhampton and then finishing a good second in a Class 5 at Goodwood.

That was his first run on turf for a while and it was a nice return to fast ground where he will get similar conditions on Sunday.

One to beat.

17:40 - Oi The Clubb Oi's

The final selection of the meeting comes in the Class 5 Handicap over 1 mile 6 furlongs and the Ian Williams trained Oi The Clubb Oi's looks to have a strong chance.

This four year old gelding returns back to this track where he gained his only ever win. That day jockey Jim Crowley was on board and he is again on Sunday.

He will certainly stay the trip having run over further in the past and when he got of the mark back in July of 2018 that was on the same ground as he will have today.
