Who To Follow At York On Day One

Trainer To Follow - John Gosden

It may be an obvious shout with John Gosden being one of the greatest trainers of all time but he holds some very strong entries on the first day of the Ebor meeting.

In the five runner Group Two Voltigeur Stakes Logician looks to be a potential superstar with the three year old colt having three starts to date and is unbeaten in all of them, only featuring in Class 4 and 3 races but still showing heaps of ability to warrant plenty of respect in this contest.

The St Leger could be a target for him and this contest will put him in good stead to see how close he is to being able to mix it with the elite of that division.

King Of Comedy is another colt the trainer is very fond of ahead the Group One Juddmonte International, progressively improving in every race and this contest looks a good chance to land his first black type win.

He landed a Class 5 at Yarmouth on his seasonal debut and then took the Listed Heron Stakes at Sandown. From there he headed to Royal Ascot where he was a very narrow second to Circus Maximus in the St James's Palace Stakes and that is a strong form line heading into the contest.

Gosden will be hoping for a fine four days of racing from his horses with his stable star Enable set to run in the Yorkshire Oaks on Thursday and on day one he has some really nice chances.

Jockey To Follow - Frankie Dettori

When we shout about John Gosden, we have to shout about Frankie Dettori aswell as the pair come hand in hand and the reason for both of their amounts of success over the last few years is because of how well they work together.

As mentioned Logician and King Of Comedy have superb chances on Wednesday but Frankie also picks up some other rides that could see him leading the jockeys championship for the festival after the first day.

In the first race of the day he jumps on the David O'Meara trained Watchable who has a lot of experience in races like this and the jockey may be able to bring the best out of him aged nine.

Cobra Eye is another colt he has a strong chance with, after riding him to victory at Glorious Goodwood narrowly getting up on the line and the youngster should improve up in trip.

Dettori is one of the best in the sport and has the rides on day one to prove why he is.

Horse To Follow - Logician

Although this horse has already been mentioned frequently our horse to follow on Wednesday on the Knavesmire is John Gosden's Logician.

This three year old has been such a bright talent for the yard who has seemed to go under the radar having only won in Class 3 and 4 races but he has done them all in superb style.

He is a son of Frankel who commands huge respect stepping into the unknown of a Group race but as we all know, John Gosden is one of the best trainers with managing his horses and if the colt was not ready he would not try him in that company.

He seems to handle the trip fine winning last time out at Newbury over 1 mile 4 furlongs and with some rain due it shouldn't harm his chances winning over good, good to firm and good to soft showing his versatility.

One to watch at York and certainly one to watch for the future.
