The first race on day two sees the Class 4 Irish EBF Maiden Stakes and the Charles Hills trained Crossford looks the pick of the bunch in this seven furlong event.

The two year old colt has only been seen once on a racecourse before, which is more than some of these runners, and he finished a decent third at a big price.

That run looks the best form on offer in the race with him finishing third of 10 at odds of 33/1, with the winner that day looking like a very smart prospect.

The first big race of the day is the Listed Rosemary Stakes and the third favourite Cloak Of Spirits holds some strong early season form that if she finds it will be tough to beat.

The three year old started her campaign this term in the over course and distance in the 1000 Guineas and finished a superb second behind the superstar Love who has since turned out to be a two time Classic winner.

Since then she has raced in better company than this placing at Epsom and Deauville in a Group Three on both good and heavy ground.

She was below par on her final start at Doncaster last time out but if putting a line through that run her form reads well and looks overpriced at 6/1.

Another nice event on the day is the Princess Royal Muhaarar Stakes and in this Group Three event over 1m4f we like the look of Alpinista.

This highly progressive filly for Sir Mark Prescott has been in good form this season, finishing fourth on seasonal debut over in France and then coming back over to England to land a superb Listed event at Salisbury.

She then stepped up to her first Group One events and outrun her odds of 33/1 to finish second behind Love in the Yorkshire Oaks.

Love is currently favourite for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and that form line alone should see her go well dropping back to a Group Three.

Aidan O'Brien has not bombarded this festival so far with runners and one of his standout chances of the three day meeting is Monday in the Group Two Rockfel Stakes.

The juvenile filly has been seen twice during her young career and after finishing fourth on debut on soft ground, she improved a massive amount to land a well contested Listed event on Irish Champions Weekend.

She won't want the ground to turn soft but a little bit of cut should not do her the world of damage and she looks a very well bred daughter of Fastnet Rock, who should improve for the step up in grade.

The feature race on day two at Newmarket is the Group Two Joel Stakes and it looks a battle between the top two in the market Benbatl and Kameko.

We are going with the Andrew Balding trained three year old who having been a Group One winner as a juvenile, Kameko on his seasonal reappearance as a three year old ripped apart an even better field in the 2000 Guineas, showing some serious pace to beat the other runners which included champion two year old Pinatubo.

He was stepped up in trip for the Epsom Derby and with many thinking the horse would not stay and he didn't as he could only finish a tiring fourth.

Stepping back down to a mile for the Sussex Stakes, with two furlongs out he looked to be travelling the best of the pack but getting no run and running into other horses, he could not unleash his challenge.

He was tried last time out in a hot Juddmonte International where again the step back up in trip did not suit him and the penny has now dropped that the mile is the distance he should be raced over.

The Listed Godolphin Stakes over 1 mile 4 furlongs sees a strong contingence from the owners who do not want to lose the race they are sponsoring.

Their best chance in the event looks to be Loxley, who has been a smart gelding during his career and when last seen was a winner in a Group Two event at Meydan.

He has been off the track since March so will need to be fit for his first run back but having strong Group Two winning form throughout his career makes him the one to beat.

The final runner of the day is the Mick Appleby trained Kittani who runs in the nine furlong Class 2 Shadwell Farm Handicap.

The four year old gelding holds some nice handicap form this season and is due to go 4lb by the handicapper so can make the most of his current mark of 82.

He has ran three times this season, discounting his seasonal debut he has ran to a good standard finishing second twice over 10 furlongs.

He has shown in those runs he handles both good and soft ground, so should be versatile whatever the weather.
