ITV Racing Tips for Today - Friday 14th November

The ITV racing cameras are live from Cheltenham racecourse on Friday 14th of November. Featuring the Shloer Chase and the return of Jonbon and the Hyde Novices' Hurdle as a pointer for the Ballymore Hurdle come March. We've gone through all the live races to pick out our tips and selections for the live racing on the afternoon.

Lord Baddesley 17/2

He’s just come off a sharp win at Newbury and jumped well, led and drew clear. That kind of performance fresh gives him a good base to go again, especially given he carries just 10-11 here under his penalty, so the weight situation isn’t overly harsh.

The class of the race (a veterans’ handicap chase) means experience counts, and Lord Baddesley ticks that box. He’s 10 years old and seems ready to make a good go of things once more. His recent form shows improvement and he looks better laid out here than some of the others who have slightly more erratic recent records.

In short, if he jumps fluently, keeps his enthusiasm and doesn’t get outpaced, he’s got a very good chance of being right in the mix.

Leave Of Absence 10/3

First off, the form is solid. He landed a nice win here over the same 3m1f trip recently and looked in good order doing it. That means he handles the track and distance which gives him a bit of an edge as some others might be 'finding their feet' at this level or on this course.

Secondly, the class and conditions look favourable. It’s a Listed Novices’ Chase, so the field is tighter, fewer runners, which often favours those who are already seasoned in staying and chasing form.

Leave Of Absence’s recent form says he isn’t just a one-hit wonder as he’s got a couple of decent chase wins under his belt and has shown himself capable of stepping up and delivering.

Jonbon 11/10

His record is seriously hard to argue with. He’s been near-unbeatable in his specialist distance over fences, and he’s already proven he handles this kind of trip and standard.

Jonbon ticks a lot of boxes here, top connections + consistent form. He’s got experience at Cheltenham and over similar ground/distance which matters when you’re navigating this kind of high-level race. His consistency gives you confidence that he’ll turn up in peak shape.

Also, he might not be flashy every time, but he’s dependable and should be really hard to beat.

Heads Up 5/2

First off, his form is showing real promise. He was second in a Grade 1 bumper at Cheltenham in March, which tells you he handles the big-course vibe and atmosphere. Then on his hurdling debut he won and looked comfortable doing so.

The step up in trip to 2m5f for this race looks a sensible move and he’s got the type of improvement in hand that you like to see. Secondly, the conditions and class seem to favour him. This is a Grade 2 Novices’ Hurdle and Heads Up has shown he’s adaptable to ground and ready for a test if needed.

He’s got a strong case if he jumps fluently, avoids mistakes and tracks the pace well.
