ITV Racing Tips for Today - Wednesday 13th May

It's the first day of the Dante Festival at York on Wednesday 13th May, with 6 live races on ITV from York and Yarmouth to get stuck into for the afternoon. The highlight being the Group 2 Minster Stakes at York, we've gone through all the live races for our tips and selections for the afternoon.

Stressfree 13/2

Came 2nd in this race last year off a mark of 94 and went on to a decent campaign. Showed he retains ability as a 6 year old, returning from a winter break last month with an unlucky 2nd off a mark of 101. Not getting a clear run, he may well have won with better luck. Goes well here, has had a prep run and looks capable off this handicap mark. Can be in the frame again.

Nogo’s Dream 9/1

Not the most consistent but ran to the best of his ability off a 2lbs lower mark at Nottingham last month to be a close 2nd behind Grandlad. Is on his last winning mark still and a high draw isn’t a negative here. Handicapped to win if replicating the form he showed at Nottingham.

Tropical Storm 11/1

Three visits to York in his career have yielded two wins and a recent run at Goodwood hinted that he’s ready for another attempt at this slightly longer trip. Won a listed contest on this card last season and now lines up off a very lenient looking handicap mark of 93. Tends to be ridden cold out the back but has some good pace drawn nearby to aim at. If the gaps appear in time he looks too well treated to ignore at a course he relishes.

Cool Hoof Luke 9/1

A really talented juvenile who scored over C+D in the Gimcrack Stakes in 2024. Clearly has had his issues since but has returned to the track this year and got his head in front last time out to win a listed race over 7 furlongs at Wolverhampton. Has been minded and given a nice break to freshen back up and can continue his form here. Conditions suit and he’s already scored over track & trip and with the Andrew Balding yard operating at a 21% strike rate, he can continue their strong form.

Legacy Link 5/4

The Gosden’s have won 2 of the last 5 renewals of this race and bring the talented looking Legacy Link here. A good looking juvenile, she looked like she’d improve for a step up in trip after her 4th in the Fillies Mile at Newmarket at the end of the season. Top rated in the field and will relish this extra distance if fully wound up for her comeback effort.

Cotai Lights 25/1

Didn’t quite get out of the dip at Newmarket 11 days ago, making what looked a good looking challenge but to really seeing out the stiff finish. It’s interesting connections opt to turn him out quickly here and this mark of 79 leaves him looking like a winner in waiting. Will prefer this flatter speed test and the in form Silvestre De Sousa is an eye-catching jockey booking.
