ITV Racing Tips for Today - Friday 8th May

It's the final day of the Chester May meeting on Friday 8th May, with another 5 live races on ITV from the Roodee and a competitive looking handicap from Ascot there's plenty to get stuck into for the afternoon. The highlight being the return of last year's Derby hero Lambourn, we've gone through all the live races for our tips and selections for the afternoon.

Whip Cracker 13/2

Good form last season and notably handled Goodwood well, with a similar turning nature Goodwood form can translate well to Chester and a very encouraging 3rd first time out this season should leave him ripe for this. A mark of 95 has him handicapped to win a race of this nature and Ryan Moore is a very eye-catching booking in the saddle.

May Angel 9/2

Some decent form as a juvenile last season but couldn’t quite cut it in Group company. Made a very pleasing handicap debut at Newbury last month to be 3rd and retains the mark of 95 for this effort. Gets a 6lbs swing in the weights with Colori Forever and will be fully match fit for the recent comeback effort.

Joulany 5/4

Brings good experience to the table, having had three runs already in his career and put in a solid effort to be a narrowly beaten 3rd at Newbury last time out. The form looks solid with the 2nd since filling the same spot in a listed contest and he can get off the mark at the fourth time of asking here.

Lambourn 7/4

Returns to this meeting after winning the Chester Vase 12 months ago and gets a nice low draw to buck out and make this a good test from the front. His form might have dipped towards the end of last season but his Epsom and Irish Derby double were fantastic performances. Cheekpieces go on now and O’Brien and Moore have been the duo in form this week at Chester.

A Piece Of Heaven 7/1

Put in a good run to be 2nd in the Irish Cesarewitch on quick ground at the end of last season in what looked a deep renewal and lines up here only 1lbs higher in the weights. Ran well on seasonal comeback over a slightly inadequate looking 14 furlongs at the Curragh last month and still doesn’t look too bad at the weights for another big run here. Still relatively low mileage for his age and represents Joseph O’Brien yard.

Miraculous 11/1

Has a good record in his two runs over C+D, winning and coming 2nd. The second coming in a better race than this last summer. He lines up back at this venue 6lbs lower in the handicap for this race and isn’t too badly drawn in stall 8. Well handicapped and can put his best foot forward here again.
