ITV Racing Tips for Today - Thursday 7th May

It's day two of the May Meeting at Chester, with another five live races on the Roodee, featuring listed and group contests, supported by a handicap chase from Huntingdon. We've gone through all the live races to pick out our tips and selections for the afternoon.

Canon’s House 9/1

Gets ideally drawn low, coming out of stall 5 and likes to go forward so looks to have the perfect set up for this sprint contest. Last seen only 3 days ago when coming a close 2nd at Beverley behind Copper Knight, he retains his mark of 87, looks well handicapped and will be suited by Chester’s speed test.

Ice In The Veins 7/2

An interesting Chase handicap debutante for the Skeltons here, having some decent form on quick ground over hurdles earlier in the campaign, winning a maiden and defying a penalty in a novice event. Didn’t quite have the quality for a deep handicap hurdle last time out but makes the switch to chasing now and gets on ideal quick ground. Can prove better than his mark of 115.

Cattura Lights 11/4

Shaped well on debut at a big price Musselburgh, doing his best work late on and not finishing far behind more experienced horses in 1st and 2nd. Will appreciate this nudge up in difference and will come on for the debut run.

Constitution River 5/6

A smart juvenile for Aidan O’Brien last season, winning a maiden in good style at Galway before capturing a group two at the Curragh. Needs to prove he’s trained on as a year old but brings strong form to the table and gets weight from his nearest rival in the market. Can continue the trainers good record with the yard winning the last four renewals of this race.

Jan Breughel 5/4

Got the better of Illinois in the 2024 St Leger and won the Coronation Cup at Chester last season capturing more Group One honours. Brings the best form to this race and is rated 9lbs+ clear of the field. Notably Ryan Moore has chosen him over stablemate Illinois as Aidan O’Brien looks for a third successive win in this race.

Caballo Grande 50/1

Had some decent form in novice events on the all-weather, winning by a wide margin over 6 furlongs at Southwell before bolting up at Wolverhampton under a penalty over 7 furlongs. Too keen and free in a handicap at Newbury recently but that effort was too bad to be true and onto a more speed favouring course he can put his best foot forward again. Needs to bounce back but looks a big price at 50/1 from a perfect draw of stall 1.
