Coronation Stakes Guide

1. Castle Lady

Trainer - H-A Pantall

Jockey - Mikael Barzalona

The first runner in the 2019 Coronation Stakes is French raider Castle Lady for Godolphin and she looks one of the more likely winners of the race racing three times in her career and still being unbeaten.

All three of her contests have come in France but she has been highly progressive in all of them, last time out landing a Group 1 at Longchamp in heavy ground but previously winning on good ground makes her versatile.

Definitely on the shortlist in this one.

2. Happen

Trainer - Aidan O'Brien

Jockey - Donnacha O'Brien

The first of the Aidan O'Brien runners is Happen who is joined by Donnacha O'Brien and although needing to step up from her runs this season might be a nice each-way price.

This season she finished a good second on debut behind the late Lady Kaya who finished second in the English 1000 Guineas behind Hermosa and then went on to win at the Curragh in a Group 3.

She certainly has to be admired in the place markets.

3. Hermosa

Trainer - Aidan O'Brien

Jockey - Ryan Moore

The one to beat is the superstar Hermosa who has been the horse of the year so far, currently leading the standings for the Cartier Horse awards after landing the English and Irish 1000 Guineas on both her runs.

She has been highly progressive this year and on her second start at the Curragh managed to look even better than her first Group 1 win.

If she performs anything like she has this season it is tough to see who beats her.

4. Jubiloso

Trainer - Sir Michael Stoute

Jockey - James McDonald

Jubiloso for the master trainer Sir Michael Stoute is a very interesting filly who is unbeaten in her career winning both of her starts in good fashion.

Her first race was in a Class 3 at Chelmsford where she won very easy and it was much the same on her turf debut stepping up in trip and breezing away from the field.

She is beautifully bred out of Sharmadal and looks to be a serious horse in the making that has to be taken seriously for this contest.

5. Just Wonderful

Trainer - Aidan O'Brien

Jockey - Seamie Heffernan

The third and final runner from the Ballydoyle team in this Group 1 is Just Wonderful and again can't be discounted at a good each-way price if she returns to her best form.

She has raced twice this season in both the English and Irish 1000 Guineas and has just been out of the frame but she won nicely at the back end of last season in a Group 2 at Newmarket and if the ground is good to soft she holds claims.

6. Main Edition

Trainer - Mark Johnston

Jockey - Oisin Murphy

Mark Johnston has not had a bad week at the Royal meeting but it could be made a lot better if this filly gives a good account of herself and there is reason to see why not.

She took a step forward last time out to land the 1000 Guineas over in Germany on good ground and with the way Ascot drains she might just get firmer ground come the race.

8. Pretty Pollyanna

Trainer - Michael Bell

Jockey - Silvestre De Sousa

This filly was superb as a two year old landing a Group 1 in France in the Prix Morny and on her return run this season was a good second behind a race fit Hermosa in the Irish 1000 Guineas.

She should come on for that run and give a bold showing for trainer Michael Bell but there are questions over her stamina and that could shy some people away from backing her.

9. Twist 'N' Shake

Trainer - John Gosden

Jockey - Frankie Dettori

The penultimate runner in the Group 1 contest comes form the Gosden yard and this three year old holds plenty of potential but might find some runners too good stepping up in class.

Her runs this season however do make her interesting in the betting and if she was to seriously step up for her latest Listed run and she would prefer the rain to fall.

10. Watch Me

Trainer - F-H Graffard

Jockey - Pierre-Charles Boudot

The final runner of the fillies race sees another French raider and this youngster has form to reverse with Castle Lady if she wants to be up there in this race.

The drying ground won't help her and like other horses this race looks a bit to good for her to go and win and on that basis can be opposed.
