Havana Anna looks a real contender at Del Mar tonight. She’s already proven herself in Europe with a couple of smart wins over 5 furlongs and solid runs in top company, including a strong second at Group 1 level in the Cheveley Park Stakes.

Her breeding, by Havana Grey out of a Danehill Dancer mare, gives her plenty of natural speed, which should suit the fast-paced turf sprint style at Del Mar perfectly.

Trained by Donnacha O’Brien and usually partnered by Gavin Ryan, she’s in great hands and comes into the race with consistency and confidence. Havana Anna has shown she can break quickly and finish strongly, and she’s been improving in better races too.

If she handles the track and settles into the local conditions, she’s got every chance to make a big impact.

Tommy Jo 11/2

Tommy Jo looks like a big player at Del Mar tonight. She’s unbeaten so far this season and has already shown she’s got both speed and stamina, the perfect mix for this step up to a tougher Grade 1 over a mile.

Trained by Todd Pletcher and with John Velazquez in the saddle, she’s got one of the most proven partnerships in the game behind her. That kind of experience and class counts for a lot on a stage like this.

She’s been improving with every run and seems to thrive under pressure, so if she settles early and gets a clean trip, there’s every chance she could stay perfect. The field looks strong, but Tommy Jo’s balance of raw pace and professionalism makes her a real danger.

If she brings her best form, she could easily make it another winning night.

Precise 5/4

Precise comes into the race with a really strong profile as she’s already chalked up four wins in five starts, including a dominant victory in the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile. Her trainer, Aidan O’Brien, is clearly very high on her, even calling her perhaps the best filly he’s ever had.

That kind of praise isn’t used lightly. She’s shown both speed and stamina, winning at 7 furlongs and a mile, on varying ground so the 1 mile turf test at Del Mar really suits.

The only real snag is her draw in stall 13, which means she might need to find a clean passage early. If she handles that bit of inconvenience and the travel without issue, she could easily be the one to beat.

Ted Noffey 1/1

The colt Ted Noffey is absolutely one to watch at Del Mar tonight. Undefeated so far this season with wins in both the Grade 1 Hopeful Stakes and the Grade 1 Breeders’ Futurity so he ticks all the boxes in terms of class and progression.

Trained by Todd A. Pletcher and ridden by John Velazquez, Ted Noffey brings both elite preparation and a top jockey into play. Despite drawing the outside post in this one, Pletcher has said he’s unbothered, suggesting confidence in Ted Noffey’s ability to handle the short run to the first turn.

If he breaks clean, settles well, and maintains his momentum from this season’s dominant runs, he could very well be the one to beat.

Gstaad 5/4

Gstaad arrives with solid European form, including a win in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes and narrow defeats in top-level company showing he’s got the class to compete at this level.

He’s trained by Aidan O’Brien, who already owns a strong record in this event, so the preparation is there. The one caution is the outside draw as stall 13 isn’t the easiest on the Del Mar turf mile and could complicate things early.

If Gstaad handles the start well, picks his run smartly and uses his proven stamina and turn of foot, he could absolutely be the one to beat.
