Newmarket Thursday Preview - 11/07/19

Bahrain Trophy 13:50 - Waldstern 14/1

John Gosden and Frankie Dettori have proved a deadly duo in recent weeks and we fancy Waldstern to outrun his early odds.

A half-brother to Waldgeist, this son of Sea The Stars has an attractive pedigree and he was set to mount a challenge before meeting trouble on return at Chester.

Holds has proven course form and should relish the extra yardage here.

July Stakes 14:25 - Visinari 5/4

We have been waiting for Visinari to return to the track since his mightily impressive debut here and based on that performance it will take a good thing to beat him.

The fashion in which he stormed up the rail suggested he is a pattern class colt and the time clocked backs up this visual representation.

Second that day Ottoman Court is also a well-regarded 2-y-o and they finished well clear of the rest.

Bet365 Handicap 15:00 - Dazzling Dan 10/1 & Street Parade 14/1

The Bet365 handicap is a tricky puzzle to solve but at nice prices both Dazzling Dan (10/1) & Street Parade (14/1) both have strong claims.

Firstly, Dazzling Dan has form figures of 21 at Newmarket and that second place finish came behind Simon Crisford’s smart-sprinter Jash. He is a model of consistency and is partnered with David Probert, who has won this race four times in the previous nine years - unbelievable!

At a slightly bigger price Stuart Williams’s Street Parade will run well for the in-form Kieren McEvoy. He holds a Group2 entry and stayed on at the finish over 5f at this track last time.

Princess Of Wales's Tattersalls Stakes - 15:35 - Masar 5/4

2018 Derby hero Masar heads the betting in this Group2 event and if all ability is retained then he ought to be winning this.

His reappearance run at Ascot was promising given that he completely blew the start and the forecasted ground looks perfect. Connections have their eyes on bigger prizes than this and anything other than a win would be seen as a disappointment.

Mark Johnston's Communique has to feared given his unbeaten record at HQ, but Masar should be a class above these and James Doyle has been riding out of his skin.

Maiden Fillies' Stakes 16:05 - Daily Times

Another top John Gosden prospect, Daily Times is closely-related to Breeders Cup winner Newspaperofrecord and she wouldn’t even be eligible for this race if Nicky Mackay gave her a stronger ride at Kempton.

She did show signs of greenness out in-front, but she was considerately handled and will benefit from both the drop in trip and the acquaintances of Frankie Dettori.

Edmondson Hall Solicitors Sir Henry Cecil Stakes 16:40 - Urban Icon

Turgenev is likely to be popular in this one but he had the benefit of a shrewd ride when attempting to slip the field at Royal Ascot and we believe the step back up to a mile will bring out the best in Urban Icon.

Connections have been sweet on this horse since his impressive debut performance and he has since ran respectably in some decent group races. His latest 4th in the Jersey Stakes has been boosted at Group1 level and he slips back into a listed event here.

John Deere & Ben Burgess Handicap 17:10 - Moqtarreb

The finale has a nice mix of proven Newmarket handicappers and improving 3-y-o’s who could be better than this grade in future engagements.

For us, Moqtarreb, who applies to the latter, is the one to focus on. This son of Kingman has some solid 2-y-o form to his name and he outlined that he has trained on with a demolition job at this venue in June.
