Newbury Saturday Preview - 20/07/19

13:50 - Fox Chairman 5/4

Newbury host the best card in Britain on Saturday and the first race of the day is the Listed bet365 Stakes over 1 mile 2 furlongs and we have sided with the favourite.

Fox Chairman for Andrew Balding and King Power racing looks very tough to beat off what the three year old has done this season.

He won on his debut here over a mile and since then has been third and second, last time out being very unlucky not to go on and win at Royal Ascot and anything like that performance should see him win.

14:25 - Proschema 8/1

The Class 2 Marsh Cup is a competitive big fielded handicap that sees a lot of familiar names go to post but we have gone for the Tom Dascombe trained Proschema.

The four year old has been in decent form on his last two runs and really picked up his game with two solid place performances.

The first came at Newmarket in another big handicap where he did well to get third but his latest performance in the Northumberland Plate was a real eye-catcher and if coming on for that should be in the frame again.

15:00 - Khaadem 6/1

The Group 3 Hackwood Stakes is one of the stand out races on the card and the six furlong sprint contest sees many Group entered horses and Khaadem for Charles Hills looks to have a big chance.

The third favourite holds a lot of potential being one of the more unexposed horses in the group but his form figures read well winning three of his five races to date.

This season he has only raced twice his first over course and distance in a Listed event and he went on to win well but he will need to improve from the Commonwealth Cup seventh at Royal Ascot but is one to watch.

15:40 - Separate 20/1

The 25 runner Super Sprint Stakes is the feature race of the day at Newbury and with a big race we have gone for a big priced horse in Separate for trainer Richard Hannon.

Hannon has a superb record in this race winning three of the last 10 renewals of the contest and he landed it last year with very likeable Ginger Nut.

Separate looks the best chance for the yard in the race as the two year old comes into this race off the back of a smart second at Windsor and looks a very progressive filly.

16:10 - Written Broadcast

The Class 4 Novices Stakes over six furlongs throws out a lot of young up and coming field of runners but we have gone with one of the horses that have already had a run in Written Broadcast.

Another for Richard Hannon and Andrea Atzeni at Newbury and this two year old colt ran to a good level in a four runner event at Doncaster and he should step up for that initial run.

Hannon does not normally have horses from this owner which again is eye-catching but for this colt it is all about how well he has come out of his debut.

16:45 - Listen To The Wind

The penultimate runner of the day is Listen To The Wind in the Class 2 Handicap over one mile and this William Haggas trained filly looks a sharp three year old.

With form figures 21612 in her last five runs she is not to be messed with and the last two performances this season finishing first at Yarmouth and second at Bath is a superb form line.

There looks to be more to come from this horse and with the booking of Silvestre de Sousa she looks to have a strong chance in this one.

17:20 - Makzeem

The Class 2 Grundon Recycling Handicap over seven furlongs rounds off the day at Newbury and Makzeem for trainer Roger Charlton is our shout in this one.

The six year old gelding looks to be getting better with time and last time out finished better than his position says on the form sheet with him getting no run at all.

He is starting to look a bit more well treated and he has previously won over this distance before making him one to watch in the lucky last.
