Haydock Thursday Preview - 06/05/2019

14:10 - Earl Of Harrow

The first race of the three day meeting at Haydock comes in the Class 5 Handicap and we have gone for the Mick Channon trained Earl Of Harrow to land the spoils.

This three year old gelding comes into this race off the back of a nice win at Windsor over the same distance as today and if tackling the softer ground holds a big chance.

At the start of the season he was put over a bigger trip and didn't work but since being brought back to this middle distance style of race he has flourished.

14:40 - Guipure

The second race of the day sees plenty of juveniles go to post in the Maiden Fillies Stakes and we have gone for the Karl Burke trained Guipure.

This two year old filly is making her debut on Thursday and if taking to the course and conditions could be a real bright spark for the yard being out of a half sister to six furlong Group 2 winner.

The betting market may be highly informative to guide how the horse may be perceived to run in the race but from out point of view she looks a smart newcomer.

15:10 - Kilig

Kilig for trainer Tim Easterby is our selection in this contest that sees nine runners go to post in the Class 4 Novice Stakes over five furlongs.

This two year old gelding is one of the few horses in the race to already have a run which should play to his strengths as he should settle better than the others.

On his debut at at Beverley over five furlongs he finished a strong second in a nine runner field and that was on good to soft so we know he will handle the conditions in this one.

15:40 - Tone The Barone

The fourth selection of the day comes in the Class 5 Handicap sprint contest over five furlongs and we have sided with the Stuart Williams trained Tone The Barone.

This three year old looks to have the best form heading into this contest after being backed heavily on his seasonal/handicap debut in April and going on to score nicely at Windsor.

He is going down to five furlongs which if anything should bring more out of him with pace being massively on his side. One to watch.

16:10 - Jabbarockie

The penultimate tip of the day from Haydock sees it come in another five furlong pace contest and we have gone for the Eric Alston trained Jabbarockie.

This six year old gelding has not finished outside the top three on all three of his starts this year and off the back of that looks to have a great form angle in this race.

He will definitely handle the good to soft conditions and if it was to rain even more it would suit him down to the ground. Has to be on the shortlist.

17:10 - The Detainee

The final selection of the day comes in the Class 5 Handicap over 1 mile 3 1/2 furlongs and we have gone for the Neil Mulholland trained The Detainee.

This six year old has the strongest form on offer heading into this race with a smart second last time out at Chepstow over 1 mile 4f and in the past has gone over further meaning he will certainly stay the trip.

He has been frequently changing between hurdles and the flat and after returning nicely with a good second, if building from that could be very dangerous.
