Chester Wednesday Preview - 08/05/19

13:50 - Great Dame

The first race of the three day meeting comes in the Class 2 Conditions Stakes over five furlongs and we have gone with the David O'Meara trained Great Dame.

This lightly raced two year old filly has only raced twice in her career not taking to racing on her debut but at the second time of asking went on to land a sprint contest at Ripon.

She clearly improved for her first run and there is plenty of scope for her to come on again for her latest win with second that day recently franking that form.

She is drawn in stall three which gives her a great lead into the race if getting out the stalls well.

14:25 - Secret Thoughts

The second race of the day is the first big one of the three days at Chester with the Listed Cheshire Oaks over 1 mile 3 furlongs and we have sided with the Aidan O'Brien trained Secret Thoughs.

The form of this three year olds seasonal debut run at Leopardstown looks strong and should hold every chance in calmer waters if staying the trip on Wednesday.

O'Brien has won five of the last 10 renewals of this race and unlike other contests only fields one of his team in this event. Holds a very strong chance if improving for her first run of the season.

15:00 - Society Queen

The Boodles Diamond Handicap over five furlongs is the second sprint contest on the card and we have gone for the Richard Fahey trained Society Queen.

This three year old filly has 6lb penalty to contend with on reappearance after a ready success on her final run last season; most of which is negated by her riders claim.

She is very unexposed only racing four times and she has only been outside of the top two once in her four runs showing consistent form, she has a good draw and seems versatile in terms of ground.

15:35 - Norway

Norway is our selection for the feature contest of the first day in the Group 3 Chester Vase and this Aidan O'Brien trained colt will take all the beating.

He is a talented son of Galileo who looks firmly on the upgrade and there is no reason to believe why he won’t go well on seasonal return given the yards terrific record in this race and the fact O’Brien has recently landed a Guineas double with two runners on reappearance.

He finished last season with two wins from three races winning a Newmarket Listed event over 1 mile 2f and this step up in trip should bring even more out of him.

16:05 - Mons Star

The Class 3 Maiden Stakes comes next and the Saeed bin Suroor trained Mons Star looks to have a great chance in this contest over 1 mile 2 furlongs.

He made a promising debut over this trip when chasing home two who have gone on to win next time out; well-bred and should improve for the run.

Godolphin have not really started firing on all cylinders yet but normally their horses are much better for the run and this colt looks a really progressive type.

16:35 - Chapelli

The penultimate race of the day is the Homeserve Handicap over six furlongs and we have gone with the Mark Johnston trained Chapelli to land the spoils.

Much improved 3-y-o who went down by a nose in a much stronger event than this at Chelmsford earlier this month. Solid record in this sphere, yard in fine-form and looks a big player from Stall 2.

The stall position is huge at Chester especially in these sprint events with the tight corner coming into the straight meaning the horses on the outside have to come a long way round and ultimately lose out but this should not be a problem for our selection.

17:05 - Gin In The Inn

The final race at Chester on Wednesday is a Class 4 Handicap over seven furlongs and we have gone with Gin In The Inn to land the spoils.

This Richard Fahey trained six year old made a pleasing reappearance run and holds sound claims unpenalised for that display; looks yard best chance who are bidding for back-to-back wins in this.

Has a handy five pound claimer on board who will help with the to weight and in drawn in stall three gives the gelding every chance.
