Haydock Park Races

Haydock Park racecourse isn’t steeped in centuries of history, like many of its counterparts. The racecourse opened its gates in 1899, and in recent decades won two awards for Racecourse of the year, in 1998 and 2000.

Haydock offers flat racing along with National Hunt racing, it’s one of the North's busiest tracks as it plays host to some fantastic meets. The Grand National Trial kicks off in February and is shortly followed by The Temple Stakes in May. There’s also the Betfair Chase in November, Sprint Cup in September and July sees the Old Newton Cup and Lancashire Oaks race events too.

Highland Castle ridden by Jamie Spencer wins The Bet 365 Handicap Stakes during the bet365 Old Newton Cup Day at Haydock Park racecourse, Newton-le-Willows.

Betting At Haydock

You’ll find ample vendors at Haydock with whom you can place your bet. We’d advise that you check back here nearer the time to race time too, just in case we haven’t already placed are favourites.

At the course, there’s a parade ring where you can take a good look at your own personal favourite.

Totes are prevalent throughout the course, where your stake goes into a pot and the winnings are split amongst the other winners who partook in the race. On-course bookmakers are stationed around too, don’t just throw your money at the first one you come across. Odds and so your best betting options can change, so go with the bookie offering the best odds for your selection. You’ll also find betting shops within Haydock Park too, so you can place bets on other races or activities during the day too.

The Haydock Park Racecourse

Over a mile and 5 furlongs long, it caters for 31 days’ worth of racing throughout the year.

Haydock Park Race Course

The course is flat, left-handed and oval in shape, the last 4 furlongs see a slight rise in the run-in. Excellent for flat racing with up to six furlongs for a straight course run-in.

You’ll also find a champagne bar within the stand and there are exceptional dining facilities, special packages are available, do call for more information.

Betfair Chase At Haydock

Despite its relatively new place on the racing calendar, the Betfair Chase at Haydock Park has quickly become one of the early-season highlights in the National Hunt season.

The 3m 1f test is the first Grade 1 Chase of the season in the UK and is often serves as the first race of the campaign for the best staying chasers in Britain and Ireland.

With notoriously tough fences to jump and 19 of them to clear in total, horses that run well in the race often have repeat success. Cue Card, Silviniaco Conti, Kauto Star and Bristol De Mai are all multiple winners of the race despite just 14 runnings.

The Betfair Chase is also the first leg of the Stayers Triple Crown, with a £1 million bonus for any horse which manages to win the Betfair Chase at Haydock, the King George at Kempton and the Cheltenham Gold Cup at The Festival.

The last horse to win the Stayers Triple Crown was Kauto Star in 2006/07, with Paul Nicholls’ superstar taking the Betfair Chase on no less than four occasions in total.

Haydock Enclosure Dress Code

The dress code for Haydock Park is relaxed. Smart and casual will not raise eyebrows, but sportswear and ripped jeans will not get you in.

Depending on the enclosure you visit will dictate the attire you can get in with:

County Enclosure: Smart dress is encouraged within this enclosure; a gentleman is to wear a buttoned collared shirt, smart trousers or jeans if of good quality with no markings or fade. Strictly not permitted is sportswear or heavily branded garments. Included within the County Enclosure are the Hospitality boxes and the Kauto Star restaurant.
