Throwback Race Of The Day For Monday - 21/06/21

Santiago

This week is all gearing up to the Irish Derby at The Curragh on Saturday and today we are looking back at last year's renewal where Santiago went on to land the spoils for Aidan O'Brien.

The master Ballydoyle trainer has managed to land the event 14 times now and last year he managed to land a 1-2-3-4 with Santiago and Tiger Moth battling it out to the line and left it for the judge to decide.

Santiago before his Group One win had showed off his staying credentials at Royal Ascot when landing the Group Two Queen's Vase over 1m6f.

Although not winning since the Irish Derby, the colt has gone on to perform at the highest level in the St Leger and latest Gold Cup.

Tiger Moth was a valiant second and has since gone on to finish another narrow second but this time down under in the Group One Melbourne Cup.

Enjoy!
