Throwback Race For Friday - 14/05/21

Stradivarius

Friday sees the Group Two Yorkshire Cup over a staying trip and ahead of the race we are looking back at the 2019 renewal, where Stradivarius landed the black type event for the second time in his career.

The seven year old has been the poster boy for the UK staying division for the last three seasons landing 10 races in a row including winning a Weatherbys-sponsored £1million bonus in the last two seasons after landing the Yorkshire Cup, Ascot Gold Cup, Goodwood Cup and Lonsdale Cup at York.

Today we are focusing in on his win in the Yorkshire Cup, with it being a typical run from the horse, travelling well and when asked to go for home by Frankie Dettori, he showed a clear turn of foot to see off his rivals.

With no renewal in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, he is the reigning champion in the race, winning back to back renewals in 2018 and 2019.

He will be aiming to land his fourth straight Ascot Gold Cup this season, which would match the superstar Yeats, but for now we will sit back and enjoy his win in this event, ahead of today's renewal.

Enjoy!
