Scilly Isles Chase Guide

1. Defi Du Seuil

Trainer - Philip Hobbs

Jockey - Barry Geraghty

The 2017 JCB Triumph winner certainly looks to have his career back on track since making the transition to fences.

Having said that, he looked so awkward for Barry Geraghty on his debut in an Arkle trial back in November, before improving massively for a novice chase over further at Exeter - beating both Topofthegame and Black Op.

Second to Lostintranslation in the Dipper on New Years Day, and faces another tough ask up a big hill.

Should go close again.

2. Dell Oro

Trainer - Gary Moore

Jockey - Joshua Moore

Fourth to Glen Forsa at Kempton on Boxing Day - a race that saw the second and fifth win before Dell Oro followed up at Huntingdon in a Novices Limited Handicap.

Always in command there, but faces stiff opposition here today and won't get the rub of the green in the same fashion.

Bold performance needed.

3. Lostintranslation

Trainer - Colin Tizzard

Jockey - Richard Johnson

Spent the first two races of his career over fences chasing down the tail of Warren Greatrex's star mare La Bague Au Roi - who does not fulfill her entry here, and has since herself gone onto win the 32Red Kauto Star at Kempton.

With no mare in sight, the 7yo scored smartly on New Years Day when fighting back on Defi Du Seuil in the Dipper on the run-in to rally close home and win.

Big test with Vinndication now.

4. Mulcahys Hill

Trainer - Warren Greatrex

Jockey - Wayne Hutchinson

Speaking of Warren Greatrex, he is represented with Mulcahys Hill, who looks certain to be the outsider of the quintet.

Two efforts over fences, and recently finished second to the classy Jerryback - who went onto finish five lengths inferior to Vinndication, before losing by the same deficit on his next start in the Altcar.

Big improvement needed, and faces a tough ask. Trainer in fine form however.

5. Vinndication

Trainer - Kim Bailey

Jockey - David Bass

Vinndication looks to be in splendid order according to his trainer, as he attempts to extend his unbeaten run to seven over obstacles.

This star 6yo will be in the hunt for a first Grade One success now stepping up to top company for the first time, having scored in the Grade Two Noel Novices’ Chase at Ascot before Christmas.

Looks very promising, and has options in the RSA and JLT going forward.

Tough to beat.
