Monksfield Novice Hurdle Runner by Runner

1. Dinons

Trainer - Gordon Elliott

Jockey - Davy Russell

One of the top novices around, is unbeaten in his last five runs for Gordon Elliott, including an impressive display at Cheltenham almost a month ago.

De Name Evades Me - who finished a good 14 lengths behind Dinons at Prestbury Park, has come out and won since - albeit in a lower graded race, but Dinons looks a class apart, and will take all the beating.

Carries 6lb penalty.

2. Choungaya

Trainer - Joseph O'Brien

Jockey - Mark Walsh

Joseph O'Brien has a rare runner for Gigginstown with Choungaya, who has been heavily campaigned over the summer in Bumpers.

He has had two starts over hurdles, winning comfortably in a maiden, before finishing a fine third a big odds here in a Grade 3.

Chances, if progressing further.

3. Felix Desjy

Trainer - Gordon Elliott

Jockey - Keith Donoghue

Last year's Cheltenham Champion Bumper sixth - who was also fifth in the Irish equivalent at Punchestown, made a winning start over timber at Galway last month.

However, he majorly disappointed in a Grade 3 round here three weeks ago, when sent off a strong even-money favourite.

Possible excuses in running, but a point to prove here.

4. First Approach

Trainer - Noel Meade

Jockey - Sean Flanagan

First Approach won smartly on his hurdles bow at Down Royal at the beginning of the month.

He strung the field out from the front like Sunday morning washing, and was more than efficient in his jumping.

Steps up to Grade 3 company now, and needs to build on that promising start. Trainer also needs a bit of a boost.

5. Magnium

Trainer - Jessica Harrington

Jockey - Robbie Power

Just the three runs for this 5yo - all of which coming over hurdles, and finished second here in an Auction Novices Hurdles on the 11th November (Choungaya 3rd, Felix Desjy last).

Won his maiden at Killarney the run before, and further progression is expected here in better company.

Key player.

6. Sometime Soon

Trainer - Gordon Elliott

Jockey - Rachael Blackmore

Won his maiden at Wexford this time last month, having finished second on his first start at Fairyhouse.

Moving up nicely, but jumps up to better company, and much more is required in this contest with better rivals around him.

Another Elliott runner, with a jockey bang in form.

Chances.

7. Easy Game

Trainer - Willie Mullins

Jockey -

Easy Games made a bright start over hurdles, with easy wins at Killarney and Galways.

For his standards, he has disappointed somewhat since, and did not handle the jump up to a Grade 3 last time at Tipperary, and the step down in trip.

Now back up to his preferred 2m4f, and a better effort is expected.

8. Under Surveillance

Trainer - Andrew Lynch

Jockey - Conor Orr

One of two mares in the field, Under Surveillance was unfortunate to be brought down at Roscommon on the first of last month, when going travelling very strongly.

She has since put that right at Thurles in a maiden, bug faces a big step up in class and distance.

Will be in the frame.

9. Western Victory

Trainer - Colin Bowe

Jockey - Brian Cooper

One start over hurdles and one smart looking win - beating Getaway Katie Mai who won the Mares Flat Race at the English Grand National meeting in April.

That form looks smart, and will look to lead from the front once more.

Not to be discounted.
