Juddmonte International Guide

1. Cheval Grand

Trainer - Yasuo Tomomichi

Jockey - Oisin Murphy

The first runner in the race is the Japanses raider Cheval Grand who is now seven years of age and looks to have seen his best days now behind him.

He finished a never closer sixth last time out in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot and off that form looks very hard to fancy.

However, he did finish second in the Dubai Sheema Classic at the start of the season over in Meydan and if getting anywhere near that form could get himself in the placings but it does look a big ask.

2. Crystal Ocean

Trainer - Sir Michael Stoute

Jockey - James Doyle

The horse to beat in this one is one of the horses of the year in Crystal Ocean who has just been superb this season winning his first three races this season and then finishing a valiant second to Enable last time out.

The five year old landed his first Group One two starts ago in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes where he was superb and this year he has been in the form of his life.

He will be very tough to beat if coming out of that Enable race well but it looks a quick turn around and only one five year old has won the race in the last 10 years which is a negative.

3. Elarqam

Trainer - Mark Johnston

Jockey - Jim Crowley

The Mark Johnston trained Elarqam has serious place claims if running to the same standard as his course and distance Group Two win last time out.

All season he has run to a good standard winning three of his last four races and that was a good third at Royal Ascot in the Wolferton Stakes on soft ground with the form being franked from that race.

Has to be taken seriously as an each way contender if coming on again for his runs this seasons, especially his latest one.

4. Lord Glitters

Trainer - David O'Meara

Jockey - Daniel Tudhope

Lord Glitters is a superb six year old over a mile and should be able to get this trip but looking at this field of runners and how strong they are at this trip it makes him vulnerable.

Two starts ago he landed the Group One Queen Anne Stakes at the Royal meeting which came as a shock to some punters but with his course record it was staring us all in the face.

He was less than impressive in the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood last time out but may well fair better for the step up in trip with him unexposed at this trip but it could also be a negative, it is very much the unknown.

5. Regal Reality

Trainer - Sir Michael Stoute

Jockey - Richard Kingscote

The second string of Sir Michael Stoute's attack on the race is Regal Reality who has ran consistently this season but looks slightly outclassed in this company.

His best piece of form was two starts ago when he finished third behind Enable and Magical in the Coral Eclipse but last time out was poor over course and distance and if not improving could finish way back in the field.

6. Thundering Blue

Trainer - David Menuisier

Jockey - Jason Watson

The big outsider of the field is Thundering Blue who would not be entered into this contest if he did not surprisingly finish third in it last year and if matching that on Wednesday could see him grab a shock place position.

He has raced three times this season not giving the best account of himself and it would take a miracle to see him go and win this contest.

7. Circus Maxius

Trainer - Aidan O'Brien

Jockey - Donnacha O'Brien

Circus Maximus is one of two runners for O'Brien and he has put in some really good efforts this season in Group One events and it would not be a surprise to see him go well here.

Since his Derby run where he finished a fair sixth, he was stepped down to a mile and took the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot just seeing of King Of Comedy and Too Darn Hot.

The latter has franked that form and he put in another good run at Goodwood behind Gosden's retired horse but he would be more fancied if the rain came.

Interesting contender.

8. Japan

Trainer - Aidan O'Brien

Jockey - Ryan Moore

Japan looks to be the Irishman's Leading chance with the two strong entries in the contest but this three year old is one of his strongest of that age at the Ballydoyle yard.

This season he has started to show his 1.3 million Guineas potential, finishing a narrow third in the Epsom Derby and from there scored in a decent Group 2 at Royal Ascot.

He landed his first Group One over in France last time out when taking the Grand Prix de Paris and has been superb at 1 mile 4 furlongs in his last three runs.

It may be a slight concern him coming back in trip and when last running at this distance was at York in the Dante where he was below par.

He is another interesting colt that should be in the mix.

9. King Of Comedy

Trainer - John Gosden

Jockey - Frankie Dettori

King Of Comedy has been superb this season, progressively improving in every race and this contest looks a good chance to land his first black type win.

He landed a Class 5 at Yarmouth on his seasonal debut and then took the Listed Heron Stakes at Sandown. From there he headed to Royal Ascot where he was a very narrow second to Circus Maximus in the St James's Palace Stakes and that is a strong form line heading into the contest.

Comes here fresh having not run since the royal meeting and is a serious contender in this hot contest.
