ITV Racing Tips for Today - Saturday 9th August

ITV Racing are live from Ascot, Haydock and Newmarket today, featuring the Shergar Cup card from Ascot. There's listed and Group Action from both Haydock and Newmarket, with the Group Three Rose of Lancashire Stakes and the Sweet Solera Stakes. We've gone through the televised races to pick out our tips for the day.

Toca Madera 4/1

It’s hard to not fancy the chances of Toca Madera at the top of the market for Brian Meehan.

He shaped well to be 4th over course and distance in a decent looking race last time out and has been generously eased 2lbs in the weights by the assessor.

Looks well handicapped now and a similar performance to last time out will see him go close.

La Vita Nova 4/1

Has some nice form in the books including a good 2nd to Robbie’s Rock over in Ireland before a decent 4th over 2 miles at the Curragh.

Wasn’t suited by a drop in trip to 13 furlongs last time out but still looks unexposed as a stayer and Hollie Doyle gets the leg up.

A mark of 84 is well within her scope to get right in the mix.

Shuwari 7/2

Looked a classy juvenile last term and returned with an encouraging enough effort on her seasonal comeback at Kempton when coming 6th. Just looking like she needed the outing and fading late.

She’s had 133 days off since that but some early market support is interesting and if she shows anything like the form she had last season she’ll be right in the mix.

Should be hard to beat if fully tuned up.

Dream Harder 7/1

Went a close 2nd in this race last year off the same mark of 87 and wasn’t disgraced last time out when coming 3rd over course and distance behind Pinhole.

A bigger field and proper pace to aim at will see him to better effect.

Cheekpieces go back on.

Haatem 10/3

The step up to 10 furlongs at Royal Ascot looked to unlock serious improvement in Haatem, he travelled nicely and won with a bit in hand against a talented field.

The drop back in trip last time out clearly didn’t play to his strengths but connections opt to go back for a mile and a quarter now and he should get a nice tow into the race from Certain Lad.

Detain looks uncomfortable on quick ground and a small field played into the hand of Royal Dubai at Newbury last time out. Haatem looks to have the superior form on paper and should back up his Royal Ascot win.

Zayer 13/2

Ran well at Royal Aacot in the Palace Of Holyroodhouse Stakes to be 4th and improved again when stepped up to 5 furlongs last time out. Finishing 3rd behind Prince Of India.

Gets a huge swing in the weights with that rival now and should be running well again off an unchanged mark of 96.

Princess Petrol 6/1

At the prices Princess Petrol looks an interesting play in the Sweet Solera Stakes. Dance To The Music looked a promising sort on debut but hasn’t been seen for 84 days, raising questions on why she’s been off so long.

Midnight Tango and Venetian Lace both look to have found their ceilings as juveniles so it might pay to look deeper in the betting with Princess Petrol. A smart winner last time out, she looked stamina assured and this step up to 7 furlongs could yield yet more improvement.

Ed Walker’s yard are going well at the minute and she looks to have some decent improvement in her to come.

Tenability 6/4

Tenability has been improving at an impressive rate of knots for William Haggas, having scored with bundles in hand in a novice at Windsor before dotting up on handicap debut over course and distance when last seen.

The handicapper replied to the tune of a 7lbs hike in the weights but there’s probably more to come from the three year old as he continues his upward trajectory for connections. Should be hard to beat again under Delphine Santiago.

Arisaig 9/1

Sent off favourite for a handicap here in May, Arisaig was just edged out late by subsequent listed 2nd Rainbow’s Edge.

Didn’t show her best at Royal Ascot, but took a step back in the right direction when last seen coming 2nd to Classic at Sandown.

Drawn wide, lines up off a workable looking mark of 98, she skipped the Golden Mile for this so should be ready to go.
