ITV Racing Tips for Today - Saturday 4th April

The flat returns to Musselburgh on Saturday 4th of April and ITV are showing a bumper five races from the Scottish track for the afternoon, featuring the Listed Goliath Cup Stakes. Supported with some strong handicaps over the jumps at Haydock, there's nine televised races to pick through. We've highlighted all our tips and selections for the afternoon.

Comic Hero 9/2

Has match fitness on his side having come out and won on the all-weather at Kempton in February at prohibitive odds over 7 furlongs. Stayed well late on in that race to suggest this shuffle up to 1 mile will draw out more improvement and lines up with an opening mark of 78. Will likely prove better than the current rating.

Persuasion 17/2

Won this race last year off a mark of 87 off the back of a last placed finish on seasonal comeback. Follows a similar path back to Musselburgh this year, finishing 7th of 8 at Newcastle last month ensuring he lines up looking well treated off a mark of 86 this year. Saffie Osborne takes the ride and he looks overpriced to get in the mi in this race two years running.

Dance And Glance 5/1

Has been in really solid form this season, winning at Ascot in December off a 4lbs lower mark before a good 2nd at Sandown off his current rating. Couldn’t quite lie up with the impressive Tutti Quanti in the William Hill Hurdle but ran well enough to be a remote 5th. Looks well treated and rarely runs a bad race.

Al Qareem 10/11

Standard setter in this field, established as a 14 furlong and further horse when winning over this trip three times last season. A busy campaign saw him claim 3rd in two Group One races and although carrying a penalty for a group 3 win last season, he stays well and brings class to the table. Will be hard to pass out in front.

Porter In The Park 12/1

Stays really well on good ground over 3 miles and returned off a short break outside of her usual mares company with a good effort to be 2nd over an extended distance at Warwick. Gets on well with claimer Cameron Johnstone-Baker and he claims a handy 7lbs off her back again. A mark of 120 is a little on the stiff side but she’s in good form this campaign and gets conditions to suit.

Gambino 6/1

A nice debut for Dan Skelton behind Constitution Hill at Southwell hinted that Gambino has some talent and he ran well to be placed despite being very keen. Struggled to settle over 2 miles over hurdles last time out and did some good work late again to be 3rd. Looks like he’ll enjoy this slightly stiffer test of stamina, especially with Almuhuit bucking out and setting good fractions out in front. A mark of 83 looks very exploitable.

Triple Trade 16/1

Simply looks too big of a price for this and won a good veterans’ chase on good ground at Sandown earlier in the campaign. Not disgraced in his last two outings to be 3rd in a very competitive Cheltenham Trials handicap and 4th in the Greatwood Gold Cup at Newbury. Conditions to suit and a mark of 130 is very workable.

Jerr Batt 6/1

Has won and come 3rd on his two outings at this venue, his 3rd coming in a deep renewal of this race last year. Generally consistent last season but has still fallen to a very attractive looking handicap mark of 85. Too well treated to ignore with conditions to suit and a good draw.

Royal Deeside 10/1

Some mixed form over fences but won well at Hexham off last August off a rating of 91 and returned to fences after a pipe-opener on the flat with an eye-catching 3rd at Carlisle at a big price in a higher grade last time out. Eases back in grade now and isn’t badly treated off a mark of 94 with a 3lbs claimer in the saddle.
