ITV Racing Tips for Today - Saturday 3rd January

ITV racing are live from both Sandown and Wincanton on Saturday 3rd January featuring seven live races across both cards. With competitive handicaps and a strong looking listed hurdle for mares and Sandown there's plenty to get stuck into. We've gone through all seven races and picked out our fancies and selections for the afternoon.

Kelce 7/2

Has some decent form in the books that looks strong for the classification of race. Comes with the downside that he’s trying to back up from a run only 8 days ago when coming 2nd at Aintree on Boxing Day. Looks better than a 118 horse over staying trips.

Can You Call 5/2

The form of his veteran’s chase win at Cheltenham looks quite strong in the context of the division and he’s not been too harshly treated with a 7lbs rise in the weights for his 7.5 lengths win. Has form with Jet Plane when beaten over C+D when giving away 2lbs, but gets 9lbs from that rival today. Should be the one to beat.

Three Pikes 4/1

Returns off a 109 day lay off but off the back of his form in maiden hurdles over the summer he looks very well treated off a mark of 105 on his handicap debut. Placed 3 times on quick grounds in decent enough looking maiden events, he should fare better now in this sphere off the back of a short break. Connections opt for a 7lbs claimer in the saddle too.

Jubilee Alpha 11/10

She fluffed her lines a bit last time out but was lugging a heavy weight around Cheltenham in a competitive handicap and now meets Nurse Susan on better terms. Quick ground should be in her favour and she should confirm herself as the best of these mares despite conceding 2lbs all round.

Got A Dream 11/4

Has won his last two starts and brings the strongest form to the table for this race. Has been shuffled 13lbs up the weights for his two handicap hurdle victories but is only winning by small margins and just doing enough to stay in front. Returns off a 60 days break but looks the one to be with again.

Nocte Volatus 6/1

Relished the stamina test of 3 miles at Warwick in a veteran’s chase back in November and wasn’t too badly hit by the assessor being raised 5lbs for the 7.5 lengths win over Torn And Frayed. Relatively unexposed as a stayer and might find new life over this longer trip now.

Hot Fuss 7/2

Last seen coming 2nd in a Grade three, Hot Fuss drops massively in class here and although lugging around near top weight of 11st11lbs, still looks well treated in this company. A decent juvenile hurdler last season, coming 4th in the Boodles Handicap Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, he really hit decent form last time out behind Wilful. Backs up after only 2 weeks break but surely will rate better than a mark of 125.
