J: David Egan
T: Roger Varian
N/A
Age: 6
Weight: 9-7

Days: 656

Shandoz is a runner for Roger Varian this weekend, as he looks to bounce back after a long absence from the track. The six-year-old was last seen in November 2021, winning on the all-weather at Kempton over a mile and four furlongs.

He certainly has class over the longer distances after winning at Ascot on two occasions in August 2020. However, the long lay-off is huge concern for the ride of David Egan.

Luisa Casati represents the Tom Ward yard at Newbury this weekend. She struggled on heavy conditions at Goodwood on her previous start, finishing sixth of eight in the G2 Lillie Langry Stakes.

However, she could yet prove capable in ideal conditions after landing victory over Time Lock at Goodowood on good to soft conditions in early May. Sean Levey takes the ride.

Charlie Appleby and William Buick join forces with Kemari at Newbury on Saturday. The five-year-old was excellent on his most recent start, as he beat Outbox by half a length in the Fred Archer Stakes at Newmarket.

This weekend’s distance will suit the Godolphin runner, who was in excellent form in Meydan earlier this year, finishing fourth in the G3 Al Sheba Trophy and second in the G2 Dubai City of Gold. Big chance.

Neil Callan takes the ride on Jack Darcy, who will be looking to back up a recent solid outing at Goodwood. He finished four lengths behind Hamish in the G3 l’Ormarins King’s Plate Stakes.

The four-year-old has winning experience at Newbury after winning the Pegasus Pump Novice Stakes over a mile and two in July 2022.

Klondike is an interesting contender from the William Haggas yard this weekend. The three-year-old has made just three career starts. On debut, he won over a mile and three, beating Banderas, before finishing three-lengths second behind Gregory.

He was below his best last time out, finishing fourth of six in the G3 Bahrain Trophy. However, he is one to consider with Tom Marquand in the saddle this weekend.

Arrest

J: Frankie Dettori
T: John & Thady Gosden
N/A
Age: 3
Weight: 9-1
OR: 110
Days: 57

Frankie Dettori’s ride in the race on Saturday comes on board Arrest. The three-year-old was very impressive on his first start this season, beating Adelaide River by over six lengths at Chester.

However, that has been followed by two underwhelming efforts over a mile and four, finishing tenth in the Derby and fifth in the G2 King Edward VII Stakes. Up in trip this weekend, and remains of interest for John & Thady Gosden.
