Trainer Roger Varian boasts two in this contest at Newmarket on Saturday with Sakheer and Charyn. The latter has made a good start to his racing career, winning on debut at Haydock and at Chantilly in group two event over five furlongs. Finished behind stablemate Sakheer in a group two at Newbury last September and has run admirably at grouped level since being upped in class.

The step up to 1m looks like it will suit him and reluctant to dismiss him in the form he showed last year, like many runners here. Tom Marquand does the steering.

Charles Hills boasts one of his runners in the 2000 Guineas with three-year-old Galeron. The colt has done ok in his flat career so far, winning at Goodwood and Curragh but at a lesser level than is required to claim victory here. Was a decent third in the Listed Burradon Stakes behind Flight Plan and Dear My Friend last month but this is a lot harder.

Yet to make his mark in this sort of company and it looks difficult for him to do so here. We all love a big odds winner, but it would be surprising if it happened here.

Aidan O’Brien boasts the two current market leaders in the 2000 Guineas with Auguste Rodin and Little Big Bear. The latter Little Big Bear has won four of his five career runs so far, including whopping seven length success in the Group One Phoenix Stakes at Curragh last August.

The three-year-old also has group three success to his name as well as a listed contest and has to be respected now up in trip. Ryan Moore chooses Auguste Rodin so Wayne Lordan gets the ride for what is going to be a classic of a 2000 Guineas renewal.

Aidan O’Brien sends two to the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on Saturday, with the two market leaders Little Big Bear and Auguste Rodin. The latter is a three-year-old who has won his last three races after finishing second on debut at Curragh. The colt claimed victory at Naas before group two success at Leopardstown and group one success at Doncaster in October.

Now makes seasonal reappearance here in the 2000 Guineas and is a major player on that form. Ryan Moore also sides with him rather than Little Big Bear and it could be a fascinating race between the two.

Age: 3
Weight: 9-2
OR: 118
Days: 210

Paul and Oliver Cole send three-year-old Royal Scotsman to the 2000 Guineas on the back of finishing a head behind Chaldean in the Group One Darley Dewhurst Stakes here in October last year. The colt boasts a couple of wins so far in his career, winning at Goodwood twice including the Group Two Richmond Stakes.

He followed that with a fifth-place finish in a group two at York when priced at 5/2 but bounced back with that good run in the Dewhurst Stakes to round off last season. It looked like he enjoyed the extra furlong there and may progress even more at 1m.

Age: 3
Weight: 9-2
OR: 117
Days: 260

Charlie Appleby sends two to the 2000 Guineas in the form of Silver Knott and Noble Style. The latter has had three runs in his career so far, triumphing in all of them at Ascot, Newmarket and York. Those victories have come at 5f and 6f, with the last of those coming in the Gimcrack Stakes (Group Two) at York last August, ahead of favourite Marshman.

Now moves up to one mile and the 117-rated sprinter will have to prove the stamina is there on reappearance after 260 days off. Certainly not dismissed, though, as he has bags of talent.

Age: 3
Weight: 9-2
OR: 119
Days: 14

Many punters fancied Chaldean to win the 2000 Guineas and he was heavily backed during the build-up to the event. The three-year-old has won four of his six runs so far, with the only blemishes on his record being a fifth-place finish at Newbury on debut and when he unseated Frankie Dettori leaving the stalls at the same course last month.

The colt has already won three grouped races and despite that blemish last month, he will be one of the leading runners here. Would be a surprise to not see him go close but this is his toughest test yet.

Another runner in this contest in contention for victory is Holloway Boy for Karl Burke. The three-year-old won the Listed Chesham Stakes on debut at Royal Ascot last June and hasn’t spent any time outside of the top three since, and all of those runs have come in grouped company.

Those runs include finishing behind Auguste Rodin at Doncaster, Silver Knott at Newmarket and Marbaan at Goodwood. Might not be able to win this but with that form he is a good each-way bet at around 14’s currently. Christophe Soumillon does the steering.

Karl Burke sends three to the 2000 Guineas in the form of Holloway Boy, Flight Plan and Indestructible. The third of those, Indestructible, arrives here after five career runs. The three-year-old has finished in the top two on all but one occasion so far, including victories at Windsor and here last time out in the Group Three Craven Stakes last month, just over a length ahead of Andrew Balding’s The Foxes.

This is a tougher assignment but reluctant to rule too many out here as they all arrive in good form.

Age: 3
Weight: 9-2
OR: 115
Days: 183

Charlie Appleby sends a couple of his runners to the 2000 Guineas with Noble Style and Silver Knott. The latter is a three-year-old colt who is in good form, finishing in the top three on all but one occasion in his career so far. Those runs include winning Group Three Autumn Stakes here in October and the Group Three Solario Stakes at Sandown.

Below-par third behind Chaldean in Group Two Champagne Stakes at Doncaster in September but ended last year with second in the Grade One Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turd at Keeneland before making seasonal reappearance here.

William Buick takes the ride instead of Noble Style, one to consider with the form he showed last year.

Charlie Johnston has one in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket on Saturday, as he sends his three-year-old Dubai Mile here. The 114-rated sprinter had a good debut year last term, progressing nicely to win at Windsor, Kempton and Saint-Cloud after finishing fourth on debut. Was second in the Group Two Royal Lodge Stakes here before claiming group one success in France to end his season.

Can go well again here but the feeling is very much that this will be a bit tougher.

Hi Royal

J: Oisin Murphy
T: Kevin Ryan
N/A
Age: 3
Weight: 9-2
OR: 91
Days: 18

Kevin Ryan sends one to the 2000 Guineas with three-year-old Hi Royal, who has had three career runs to date. The colt finished third on debut over seven furlongs at York before winning ten-runner Ayr novice at 1/1favi a month later in September. Stepped up in company to class two when finishing fourth here in April last month, not too far away from winner Majestic Pride.

Needs to find much more here if he is to challenge the leaders and this may be too tough for him in group one company for the first time. Oisin Murphy is on board.

Days: 231

Roger Varian has two in this race with three-year-olds Charyn and Sakheer. The latter arrives for the 2000 Guineas in good form, winning two of his first three races at Haydock and Newbury as well as finishing second on debut at Windsor to Magical Sunset, who has gone on to claim listed success since.

The last of his wins was the most impressive, claiming success in the Group Two Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury in September by three-and-a-half lengths to Rousing Encore. Stablemate Charyn was also behind him in third.

Steps up to one mile for the first time here now and looks a big prospect if staying the trip. One to consider.

Flight Plan

J: Daniel Tudhope
T: K R Burke
N/A
Age: 3
Weight: 9-2
OR: 102
Days: 29

Karl Burke has three in this race with Holloway Boy, Indestructible and Flight Plan. The latter is the least fancied of Burke’s runners despite finishing second last time out on reappearance at Newcastle last month in the Listed Burradon Stakes over 1m, a neck behind Dear My Friend. That followed a class five victory at the same course in Newcastle after finishing fifth on debut at Leicester.

There should be more to come from him after having only three runs, but this will be much tougher.
