York’s premier meeting of the season kicks off on Wednesday as the Ebor Festival starts with its usual competitive-looking day one card. The Juddmonte International sees a strong crop of middle-distance horses, with last year’s winner Ombudsman looking to defend his title from Coral Eclipse winner Constitution River.
With a feature Group One race every day, the fillies and mares get their spotlight race on Thursday with the Yorkshire Oaks and King George heroine Kalpana, while the sprinters take centre stage Friday for the Nunthorpe Stakes.
Australian mare Asfoora is looking to retain the race before retiring from racing. The Festival comes to a close Saturday with the City Of York Stakes and the Festival’s feature Ebor handicap. With twenty-eight races across the four days, the Knavesmire brings us some of the best racing in the whole calendar this week.
